if you consider the phrase...lead, follow, or get out of the way, it can be emphatically stated the gm chose to not get out of the way with the new c7. As far as whether they are leading or following is personal perspective, as discussed ad nuasium, but at least they gave it a fine effort. regardless of the position you take, you gotta give them credit for upping the ante.

Nothing personal, BUT, this doesn't rock at all. Everything is at right angles and straight lines. Doesn't even look like a sports car, more like a caddy if you ask me. In fact my C6 interior looks far superior to this P car. If you want luxury buy a Rolls. P cars aren't it my friend....
but in two tone , a Porsche Boxster/911 interior looks better and to me seems more cohesively penned than the C7 Corvette two-tone's collection of random unconnected swoops and swirls of contrasting color , fronted by persistent acres of ABS plastic surrounding the instruments/HVAC/radio control panels , window pull switches in the doors and especially the cover for the big cup holders to the right of the shifter which still gives it a C5/C6 cheapish vibe , when compared to the Porsche where you don't see much or any ABS plastic staring back at you everywhere . The C7 $900 carbon interior package should have also covered the window switch areas, below the HVAC panel and especially that huge light catching dust collecting cup holder lid, but doesn't . :

In 2012 model year Porsche 911 and Boxter/Cayman models outsold all 2012 corvette models combined more than 2 to 1 and they did that at a much higher average sales price than the vette.

I have never even considered a Vette until now. They definitely got MY attention.

2020 C8 of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
To Porsche, sportscars and the brand name is everything. Its their daily bread and butter.
To GM, the Corvette is just a halo car to bring in truck and Cruze buyers. The Viper is no different and the Ford GT was no different.
Porsche survives off Porsche. Chevy survives off Silverado.

If GM plans to compete with Porsche... they better step up and make a decent auto gearbox. Porsche auto gearboxes are miles ahead of GM's.
The new C7 M7 will be a competetive track performer I'm sure. However, in auto form the C7 is no where near as track worthy as a PDK Porsche.

The C7 is supposed to fix these short comings of the C6, although the C7 is still lacking a track worthy gearbox. We will see.

ya know car guys are funny..over on Rennlist and 6speedonline everyone is complaining about PDK-only for this car, while here a lot (not all) want a dual clutch "manumatic" (see 3 posts above and the poll on manual vs auto addle box). Then again they also complain about all wheel steering and electronic steering assist....

That interior is about as feminine as it gets. Any guy that would order a car with that color interior probably sits to pee!

There are more and more cars that are giving corvette a run for the performance and handling title.
After watching the last Lemans series race at Long Beach recently it appears in addition to Porsche the Corvette is now having a problem competing with the BMW Z4 and SRT Viper that have both just started to compete and are already at the top of the podium.
The C7 really needs to step up their handling to stay competitive.
Race results from a couple of weeks ago:
Long Beach Results
1. #55 BMW Z4 GTE (Auberlin/Martín)
2. #56 BMW Z4 GTE (D. Muller/Hand)
3. #91 SRT Viper GTS-R (Farnbacher/Goossens)
4. #4 Chevrolet Corvette C6.R (Gavin/Milner)
5. #3 Chevrolet Corvette C6.R (Magnussen/Garcia)

You're right. But look at Porsche sales figures in general. Last I read 80%+ of the folks are ordering the PDK, and I think it's the GT3? will only be made with PDK. So, like many situations, the silent majority are putting up their dollars while the vocal minority squawks. And the electric steering actually works very well, at least that what the folks I have talked to have said, I like it.
