Default C7 Backup Camera

Just curious of where the camera is located in the back-end of the car? Also, I would assume the Nav screen is where the image would be and would it also be displayed onto the HUD if equipped? Your thoughts?

kerbeck (Dave Salvatore) has a video of the backup camera in action. There are measurement lines and the camera itself is right above the license plate I believe. They didn't show anything being displayed in the HUD and I know of no current system to project video like that. Just the standard view in the MyLink screen.

From the pictures I have seen of the rear, there is a fixture of some kind above the license plate, my guess backup camera.

Here you go. It's right above the license plate.

A dash shot.

That is so cool looking. I would love to see this in action via youtube. I wish my C6 would have this but I will wait until I buy my C7. Now if they could only get a front view camera would be sweet. I still have to park like a foot from curbs because you can't really see very well over the front hood, but it's still better the my C5 and way way better then my C4 was for sure...

I don't think so - just searched for it now and at kerbeck.com as well without success. It was an exterior shot showing the C7 loading or unloading for the NYC auto show I believe. No interior action that I remember. The pictures above cover 99% of what was posted previously. Basically that there are lines, the camera is above the plate and has a wide enough angle to pick up the "Chevrolet" on the plate. Probably multi-view and/or top down angle on that shot? Don't know if it has guidance lines or anything else. There doesn't appear to be ultrasonic sensors in the back bumper.

I wonder why they don't put rear sensors. Even the zl1 has rear sensors.

Im seriously hoping its higher resolution than that. I rented a 2012 GMC Terrain in Vegas a month ago.. and was seriously disappointed with the resolution used in the rear camera. Looking at this picture, it pretty much looks the same. Dark, gritty, blurry and washed out.

Where as the backup camera on my girlfriends 2009 Infinity G37 is crystal clear and much higher resolution. GM I know you are trying to keep the price as low as possible on this car. But please dont go 90% of the way.. and cheap out on the last 10%. A $55,000 car deserves a camera that works as well or better than whats on a $20,000 car.

Especially when informed consumers know a quality rear view camera costs as little as $16!!!

The "high definition" of that camera in your link is "656 × 492 pixels". That is NOT high definition.

The sensors add like 2 pounds. Mclaren, bugatti, ferrari all use them front and rear. It is completely stupid GM doesn't do the same. This way we won't screw up our rear ends or low hanging front splitters and makes parking go a lot faster.

I would love to see a camera up front too, I don't know how many times I've crashed my front end into parking blocks, gawd that's a painful sound.

Looks like the exact same setup and display as our 2012 Volt.

That picture was taken at night. Backup cameras don't display very well in the dark nor do backup camera screens photograph well in the dark.

The backup camera in the C7 will be just fine!

Never said it was "high definition". I said higher resolution. And the pictures from that $16 camera definitely look higher res than the sample C7 shot shown in this thread.

Its a $55,000 car. I would expect something like 640x480 to be the minimum resolution. Preferably higher. Its about time the feature technology in the Corvette stops getting embarrased by whats available in a Hyundai Sonata.
