455hp is a joke
If this is true dealers will be unloading C7's at invoice by spring.
GM has handled the hp announcement terribly and they somehow managed to add direct injection to the 6.2L V8 and get half the hp gains they did adding it to the 3.6L V6.
Just plain terrible planning and execution

@ the OP - Wow...and you think it won't cut it @ 455? You really haven't got a clue. You stay with what you have now...and watch the C7 become the best selling Vette ever.

Yeah the idea that an unfinished pdf is the "announcement" is funny when you look at how very controlled every other announcement GM has made in this campaign has been. I'm not arguing the number is wrong because I don't know what it is but that sure isn't the "announcement".

The front page of this site says 455 HP for the C7.
I think that is a good number but it would be better if the car weighed a bit less than the current one. I was hoping for +30hp -30lbs.

That PDF is definitely not GM s announcement...

Scraping the splitter.
This thread will be locked soon.
Yet another C6 owner (who bought a heavily discounted GS recently), who has trash talked the C7, and even C7 buyers, stirring the pot.

Everyone isn't hung up on the number. But, as always, an awful lot of Corvette owners are 'horny for horsepower' and I certainly can't blame them if that is what they care about. It's their money.

For a lot of people that will be doing city driving, that torque sounds a lot more juicy. There still would've been a "500 hp is disappointing" thread with reference to 650hp+ Shelbys being the norm. No win situation. This is the oddest forum.

Totally. I'm convinced that 505 wouldn't have been enough because it wouldn't be any vast improvement over the LS7 they already own.

Number of us that buy the car for looks, comfort and features may be less than 98%... but there are a bunch of us.

Expected a fun experience, and a wealth of information joining this forum as a future 1st time owner of a Vette, but truthfully.
Some of the folks here are incredibly whiny, defensive, and make an awful lot of assumptions.

Wait for the Car. Wait for The Major Mags to Test Drive it. Wait for the Official Numbers
How can you judge what you know so little about?

Does appear to be a pot stirring thread when OP mentions in TacDoc's 427 Convertible thread that for $2500 he added an extra 100hp to a heavily discounted GS via cam and bolt ons. Bye the way, I think that route is AWESOME..... however let's say this motor came in at an even 500 hp. You still would have trounced it in overall performance with the upgrades you have.
Horsepower forgives many sins, styling isn't one of them, personally. If the design hasn't blown you away or made you want to pull the trigger, there's no way an additional 40-50hp would've forgiven your dislikes of the car as is. Some of the Corvette's best selling years happened during the onset of smog, EPA and wheezing engines. Enjoy the GS, though. Still a Vette.

I am getting really tired of waiting for the final announcements about weight, hp and torque and whatever to be made and behind us. I want to see the lap numbers, tests, comparos, so we can see how the world views this next gen and how it stacks up to it's competition.
