Default Convert quarter vent location

Looking at the video posted by Rick Conti of the convert top operation, it looks like they could have easily added the quarter vent on the top just like the coupe. Appears to be lots of room. The only thing that could interfere is the strut for the tonneau, but they could have moved it elsewhere with a bit of ingenuity.

Anyone agree?

Quite frankly, I'm glad it's not there on the vert. That's why I'm ordering one rather than the coupe ! The vent's ugly.

I know that lot of people do not like the vent. But I like it because it's functional.

From looking at some coupe pictures, it looks like the air is directed between the body and the interior just under the top surface.

The air then goes downwards at the very rear and through the heat exchanger then a tight turn and out thru the rear grill.

For the convert, I suspect that the inlet is on the side wall inside the rear wheel wall just behind the top portion of the tire.

I would dought that this is a very good location for high pressure area.

So are the vents on the vert. At least they're hidden. Btw, on the 1LT they are non functional.

the vent on the top has a function at least in the coupe, but it also has a path/ducting. maybe it wouldn't all fit in there with the convertible top and its unseen structure(s).

That's incorrect. Being 1LT (or 2LT/3LT) has no impact on whether or not the rear quarter vents are functional.

Base (non-Z51) in all trims (1LT/2LT/3LT) will have nonfunctional vents unless you get the automatic, which means one of the vents will be functional to cool the transmission cooler. Not available on the manual.

Z51 in all trims (1LT/2LT/3LT) will have functional vents for the transmission cooler (on both automatic and manual) and eLSD cooler.

Only the Z51 package and the choice of transmission determines whether or not the vents are functional, the trim does not.

Yeah, I know. I should have been more specific

Exactly, along with the fact that the cover moves, so resealing the vent tube each and every time would create some, I would guess, pretty major engineering challenges. Especially considering that you can raise the top at speeds up to 30 MPH. If it didn't set just right, I imagine it would create all kinds of issues.

Anyone actually see the vent opening on the convert inside the wheel well?

No. I'm sure if they could have put the vents there in a viable way from a financial & engineering standpoint, they would have.

It's going to be interesting to see just how many coupe owners try to make the conversion to the hidden venting of the vert in a effort to clean up the rear quarter fenders.

From my understanding on how the ducting works, probably will be easy. Pop off the grill, pop in an aftermarket body colored cover kit, take the left rear wheel off and jig saw a hole in the body side with an included template. Pop in some sort of included grill. And don't forget to put the wheel back on.

Ehhhh why ? ......... The idea of using the quarter fender and ducting from the vert is to eliminate the vent in the fender completely.

Go to 3.08 on this video and Tom Peters provides his explanation of why the rear quarter vents are not present on the vert. To me it makes the vert a much more appealing, (less complex lines), smoother flowing appearance.
