It is amazing how many people compensate for their shortcomings this way. The Porsche boys have mastered the exploitation of these individuals and raised it to an art form. They present their entry level offerings with prices that are grossly in excess of what the car could physically ever deliver but get away with it because the buyer knows this vehicle will be perceived as a 100K+, flash item by the majority of the public.
You do know you may not get as good performance out of a boxter or cayman but that isn't the point. The point is a very very refined every day sports car that is almost completely designed how you see fit. It cost a lot of money to have that kind of flexibility rather than give you 5 options to choose from and 5 colors. If you think about the vette buyers who buy fully optioned vettes then dump 10-20k in mods to make it their own you are pretty much already at the price of a fully loaded boxer or cayman S.

I agree with this only on the jag statement because that car offers very little. Plus a jag is a poor mans way of portraying status if that is the case.

Why would you go to a CF and ask them when they are likely to buy a C7? I think it makes more sense to ask people on a jag forum unless you just want comments slamming jags.

I went and looked at the V8 Supercharged version. The dealer wanted 108k and my first question was how much for an oil change. His answer was $500.

So C6GS performance with a ZR1 price tag but much higher maintenance costs without the powertrain warranty.

Neat car. Sounded good, felt good, looked good. Worth practically twice what a C7 will go for with similar performance? Not to me...

At least the Jag vert has roll bar hoops, something the C7 vert should have.

And how many thousands of times have we heard the same thing said about Corvette owners? And truth is, an awful lot of Corvette owners really do buy them for exactly these reasons.
That makes no sense at all, if there's a Corvette buyer who is concerned about status/prestige they would simply take the same amount that it costs to get a Corvette and instead get a Porsche Cayman, which is slower but has more prestige in the eyes of onlookers.

At the price of a new Jaguar F-type, you are better off doing what I did in late 2012 and get a pre-owned Aston Martin Vantage V8, you can get a good fully loaded 2006-07 55K to 65K. Maintenance cost is $1600 per year or every 16K km +/- and its a great GT car.

The Jag looks great IMO but I just prefer the overall package the Corvette offers. It doesn't bother me though that others prefer the Jag over other cars - everyone has different tastes.

Agreed, the Jaaaaaag is simply gorgeous. Ian McCallum knows his way around a styling computer (?) or modeling clay or whatever the hell the designers use these days. Plus, the V8 has a muscular sound to die for. And, like it or not, not everyone's into Vettes and Porsches or they want British and can't afford an Aston.

I love Corvettes, and I know we Corvette folks like to throw around track numbers because that's what our cars excel at, but not everyone (frankly, very few people) actually track their cars or would care about magazine comparos where our cars beat the Jaaaag by a couple of seconds. They just want a gorgeous car with enough brand firepower to make 'em look good. That's what the F-Type gives them.

I wouldn't buy one.

The only thing I like about it is the styling of the rear end. Other than that, I consider it to be a "fail" for my purposes.

You are right. What I really meant to respond to was the implication that people just buy them for status. A lot of Corvette owners just buy them for status as well and could care less about it's capabilities.

Prestige of a Porsche Cayman or Boxster. If I lined up 100 people that I know (not necessarily Corvette owners) and asked them if they thought either of the above cars is prestigious, or well regarded among the Porsche lineup, not even a majority would agree. Good cars nonetheless. Better in many ways than a Miata or S200 but not a prestige vehicle. jmo.

I should start some polls here such as what style house is the best, what is the best color , the greatest food or beer, the prettiest wife/ girlfriend...etc., and state first that there is only one correct answer, mine .......roll eyes.

There are so many cars cars I admire for different reasons across different categories and from so many different makes from around the world ...they are all good, and we should admire all these efforts , before we are legislated to one electric model in one color from one manufacturer, ala a one and only black Model T business model , as some environmentlists dream about .
This is the golden era in vehicles , looking back the past 60 yrs, from a model and manufacturer range across the world. Just think to the early 80s..you had 911 or 944 and Corvette, pretty much it for sports cars in the US, and one US legal model from Lambo and Ferrari and from Japan, a Supra, RX7 and 300Z and that was IT .
Now there are probably dozens of sports sedans available that would beat any of those cars around a track.

I always love hearing this kind of nonsense.
The Jag has a sphincter for a nose, IMHO. It polarizes the heck outta me, mainly because...
it's a friggen Jag! AAHHHHHHHH!.

It's called personal choice, there are people out there who wonder why people buy Corvettes. For most people price isn't a big deal so you can't say they "over paid" because you don't know the financial situation of that person. Believe it or not there are people who are not impressed with anything about the Corvette and select other vehicles.
