I too would pick the 911, and promptly sell it. Use the money to buy the C7 equipped the way I wanted, and pocket the leftover cash.
Exactly, as the Porsche likely stickers for double to triple that of the C7. Sell it to some "status" seeker that doesn't know what he buys comes with a massive, look-at-me, A-hole factor.
If Corvettes target is Porsche how can this be true. Have you ever read anywhere that Porsche said they were targeting Corvette for performance or quality? I've never read anything like that.
Corvette targeting of Porsche isn't at the Boxster/Cayman level. It is the 911S and up level of cars. I hear Toyota is targeting Porsche at the Cayman/Boxster level though.
Porsches are so common place that rarely do they carry swag anywhere especially not at a country club.
Sorry but its true..
Nice sports cars but they rarely get noticed...its just
A natural downside to evolutionary styling so please don't be offended.
They don't get noticed because the 911 is perhaps one of the most boring looking high-end sportscars to ever be produced. Base 911's are so anymous they go largely unnoticed. IMO, it's not until they get the widebody and a wing that the cars actually look good (and those versions do look good to me).
Well-engineered, sure. Solid performers, absolutely. But boring to look at more for than a glance. The Boxster and Cayman are no better, IMO, they just have far less power.

sorry but I happen to think Porsches, along with most other performance vehicles, are gorgeous. Well, OK - so a '74 targa might not be as drop dead sexy as a 996 but I'll glad take either if you want to give me one

To each their own. As I stated, I think the 911, Cayman and Boxster are very plain and boring looking cars. And have you seen the Panamera?
The widebody cars (Turbo, GT3, etc.) look good, perhaps because they appear more purposeful.

interesting as the Cayman and Boxster base models compete with the c7 in price level. you've got to go up to the 911S level to find comparable performance. unfortunately for the Porsche boys stopwatches don't lie. it's a shame that the Porsche guys have to spend 130 grand to find c7 level performance. that is actually laughable.
The body style evolution of the Porsche is such that most people no longer notice the 911. If your a car guy you might... I like the new 911 looks but not compared to the sleeker more radical design of the corvette...in my own personal opinion...
I'm glad Porsche exists. I just prefer to own the corvette.

Same here for corvette as it costs almost same as Carrera S here

Probably why they try to spice up the "same old hash" look of the 911 with those ridiculous billboard graphics on some years and models. That is really gross considering what these things cost.
Dmporter -- a 996 drop deal sexy? YHGTBFKM; that is the ugliest version 911 ever produced (the 996 turbo excluded but even that widebody 996 isn't very pretty). IMO, all 911's have to have some sort of modest rear wing to look good. That droopy *** does not look good to me. I've said it all along (even when I owned my 996TT and 997TT) that the widebody C6 Vettes are more aggressive and better looking cars to me. I think the new Boxster is the best looking Porsche produced since the 993 Turbo. The new 991 GT3 looks good as well.
I see the new CTS V Sport has the new 8 speed auto trans. I cant wait to see the new V3 V8 come out, 600 +hp with a 8 speed auto? This will be great for the new Z07 C7 or what ever they call it, It will be a beast,
Two turbochargers produce more than 12 pounds of boost (80 kPa), hitting 0-60 in only 4.4 seconds. Cadillac's first high-performance, paddle-shift, 8-speed automatic transmission delivers smooth, quick shift performance along with an electronic limited-slip differential and segment exclusive Magnetic Ride Control. Lightweight technologies, including aluminum door structures, contribute to lower curb weight and nearly 50/50 weight balance.

The cheap Vettes will probably hang on to the 6 speed auto and the expensive ones will get the 8 speed. We may see $150000 Vettes soon. They may even weigh over 3500lbs.
FWIS history is repeating: with the A4 I heard the same story from GM, the Corvette doesn't need 6 speeds; the A4 is faster because it shifts less than an A6 would, etc, etc, etc. Then lo and behold, out comes the A6 and GM says yada, yada, yada.
I'm betting the same here, Corvette will get an A8 or A9, hydraulic coupling, not mechanical.
The CE was telling it the way he sees it; no A8 or A9 is/was available TO HIM that would fit and handle the torque. So will the trans that Ford and GM are working on fit? Will its performance be as terrible as the current Ford trans whose CR ratings are basement level? Where is ZF lurking in all this? At present Chrysler is a ZF purchase customer and are licensed to use the ZF technology in Chrysler built trans. I understand the few A9s that Chrysler uses are purchased ZF units and the units that Chrysler builds are using licensed ZF technology.
To repeat, I'm betting the same here, Corvette will get an A8 or A9, hydraulic coupling, not mechanical.

I won't say anything positive about Porsche in this post. However let me say that I keep hearing that Corvettes target is Porsche. They missed the target with the C6.5 in my opinion and one reason is the lack of a PDK transmission.
Mr Colorado C6 (or should we call you Mr. Colorado C5.25?),
Since the C6 was really much more like the C5 than the C6 is to the C7, then didn't that really make the C6 the C5.25 ...and if THAT were true, then doesn't that make the C7 really just a C5.75?
..and then what of the C8?
Let's see, ummm .. carry the 5... Ugg, my mind is in a tizzy.
You seem to be the expert at this numbering scheme that you speak of. Can you shed some light on this for all of us?

"A fluid coupling is a hydrodynamic device used to transmit rotating mechanical power. It has been used in automobile transmissions as an alternative to a mechanical clutch."
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
