I am GM's "Target Buyer"......
I am really happy to have found the forum and have enjoyed spending time on here the past few months and plan to continue spending time on here (much to my wife's dismay).
I have read many posts dealing with GM's "new younger target buyer" and many posts dealing with "Vette vs. Porsche".
That being said I figured I would throw out my .02 cents. First off I am 35 years old. My C7 is currently @ code 3300 and I am foaming at the mouth to get it.
I have had 6 previous Vette's. My first was a gold 84 that I purchased for $5,000 my sophomore year in college. Since that time I have had a 92, 97, 05, 07 ZO6 & a 78 Pace Car at various times over the past 15 years.
I have loved Vette's since I was a kid but I must admit I had lost the passion I once had for them. I had recently considered buying a C2 since I had lost my appetite for new models. Even the ZR1 didn't thrill me and I honestly think it's overpriced. But the C7 bug bit me hard. I think GM has knocked it out of the park in all aspects including styling, price, performance & quality.
By the way......I sold my 911 Carerra S vert so the wife would give me the blessing on the new C7.
That is all

You are the part of a captured core of Vette loyalists. By definition they dont need to "target" you.
I on the other hand, drive a competing car. I would think the car would be marketed to potential conqeust buyers and expanding the loyal customer base Corvette has long maintained.
I have not driven the new Cayman but so far it is been described as brilliant so I wont be ruling that out just yet and I am not really in the market for likely another year. But I have to admit, the gears are turning to put a C7 Roadster in my garage.
Whatever they are doing, it has my attention now.

Actually I also may be the target buyer....I know they want a younger demographic than my 62 years of age, but I think they are looking for people who would never buy a vette but has had plenty of Porsches, BMW's and other euro cars in their past. That's me. Until this Vette, I would not even give them a 2nd look as the ones I were in just rode hard, "ok" looks and had less than stellar interiors....this one hits all the marks, I think it will take a good chunk of Euro buyers esp with the price...
it also helped that I bought a SS camaro last year, that I love, it's as good as any other car I've owned for what it's intended use --> a big muscle car

They did need to target me. My last new Vette was puchased 6 years ago. I'm not saying I would never have bought a Vette again but I certainly wasn't going to buy a new one. If anything it would have been a 57 thru 71. GM doesn't make $ on those anymore when you buy one.
Nothing new coming out of Bowling Green was exciting me. The Grandsport, ZR1, and 427 models were all released after I purchased my 07 Z06 and none of them excited me enough to buy. In fact I sold my ZO6 and bought a Viper and sold that when I got the 911.
Now the 911 is gone in prep for the C7 and the wait is killing me. My daily driver is a lifted truck and it goes no where fast. Been living the life of a turtle the past couple months while driving. It sucks

I also have not owned a vette over the past 7 years and the C 6 that I did own was only for a short time. The C7 has hit the nail on the head. The rear window design has really made this car a knock out.

Interesting, I really dig that too. I dont want to compare it to anything but it reminds me of the decklids on some exotics. Good stuff!

I haven't purchased a new Vette since 2002 and owned it for a little over 2 years. So the last time my butt was in a vette was 2004. I passed on the C6 generation and went Euro and others . I'm 43 years young and the C7 has pulled me back into the Corvette family. Job well done Chevy. Can't wait

At 45, I think I'm still in their targeted demographic (perhaps toward the tail end of it).
But they've had me for a while.
OP, congrats on the 7.

I don't see the point either, had my first Vette at the ripe old age of 19. I have been around them since birth and I'm 33 this year. Right now I don't have a Vette but I'm waiting for the C7 to release, and also waiting for the new house situation to get all settled as well. The current house isn't cutting it.
