Default Black Wheel Durability

Searched, didn't find anything. How durable do we think the black wheels will be? If they wont look good in a years time due to rock chips, etc. I might pass. I never curb my wheels so that's not a concern. Rethinking before I order whether or not I want the plain regular wheels or black.

They look like baked gloss enamel (or urethane) - should be pretty good durability...I would opti-coat the wheels or some other semi permanent coating on them when I got them....if you are cheap and don't want to order off the net, get some nu-finish at the auto parts store and put two coats on 12 hours apart for good protection...

I have oem black rims on my Mini. When I get a rock chip I just use a sharpie that works well for me.

You shouldn't have any durability or chipping problems with the black wheels. The big problem with gloss black wheels is they show a lot of dust and dirt even after driving only a short distance.

I know this sounds like a broken record but they don't hold dirt if you seal them ....

You mean like a clear plexiglass disc on both the inside and outside of wheel?

Opticoat Is a good idea. I might do that.

ZL1-we have an M3 that I can think about driving and the rims are covered with black brake dust. I was hoping black wheels would be a *lot* better. Also, I've not owned a Corvette before and was hoping brake dust wouldn't be too bad. Maybe not after all.

M3's have terrible dust.....opti coat is amazing stuff, even if some here think it's a scam...a quick search of autopia (detailing forum) shows how much detailers use it:

and specifically on wheels:
