Ignore the troll comment that started this....but there are 3 items that I do wonder what price matrix they used to get the option price:

1. chrome wheels @ 2K - retail to chrome a wheel is $400 - and I assume in mass, it's much cheaper - 2K is out of the park

2. "machined" face base wheels @1500 - to polish???...Ummm... no...but the black wheels at $500 is very fair...

3. Painting calipers at $150 a wheel? Again....HUH?

I got the standard painted silver wheels. I'm going to sit back and wait for someone to sell their machine-faced wheels and ****** those up. LOL And since I'm in no rush, I'll wait until they're way cheaper than the first year gouging prices.

not only w. this post but all of the ones Mike posted above. but I do have a suggestion for the OP, or two: first, go buy a C5 since it's so well, color-coordinated even if it IS 18 model years old. second, as said above, it IS about choice---you can buy it, or not----or even better yet, follow Iaccoca's advice: "if you can find a better car, buy it!"

frankly, everyone has a mental wallet of what they want to pay, and if you can't or don't want to pay for a color, a part, an option or a package, it's still your choice to do it, or don't.

so far, not many think it's overpriced or too expensive for what is offered. but many/most have made choices of what will, and what will not be on their cars. you can, too......

I am confused on where I said options were a problem? What I said was GM is making profit "to keep them around". I am WELL AWARE you have to make money to stay around. See I pay fees every month so you have a forum you can come to for free.

When I ordered my car, the machined faced wheels weren't even an option. The only 2 other wheels were chrome and black.

I'm not sure if I would have ordered it with the machined faced wheels if they were offered before. At this point, I doubt it. I already racked up a huge invoice as it is.

Same logic I have. I will be pulling wheels off when they need tires anyway so why spend the extra money on chroming anyway. Again why we have options.

That was my point on the pricing. GM is already painting them. I know there is cost associated with options because every time they have to paint something a different color they must make changes that cost time. $595 to change paint color from black tobred though? Too much for me. Has nothing to do with what I can and can't afford.

If I sell all my Corvettes I can afford whatever I want but that doesn't mean I would do it.

OK. You give your condescending comment about concerns over parts cost and when someone responds you get your panties in a bunch.

I was 19 with a $10k Vette that needed $2000 shocks that slammed my head into the ceiling going over railroad tracks. Maybe you never had that experience but I did and it impacted future purchasing decisions.

I am also cheap. It is why I can have all my toys.

I saw a program a few months ago about Ferrari that said the AVERAGE added options items for the FF added around $75,000 to the purchase price.

Oh, there you go with facts to ruin a perfectly good rant.

It isn't really a fair comparison though. Ferraris are an extremely low production vehicle so there is no huge spread of cars to help drop costs. Pioneer makes an $80,000 speaker that the creator explains if they had enough demand for them they could get them down to $5000. There isn't enough increased demand at a price drop from $80,000 to $5,000 though.

Ferrari buyers are also at a point where cost is of little concern. It is an indulgence and therefore cost is not an issue. I just don't think you can put a Ferrari buyer in the same category as a Corvette buyer. If cost wasn't a factor Corvette wouldn't be as successful as it is. This is why having options is nice. Most are stuff I would prefer to do myself later on.

It is a nice way to "mod" your cars from the factory.
