Default C7 Rock panel rock chips

Just wondering if anyone knows. The C5 and C6 are notorious for the front tires kicking up rocks, and subsequently developing severe stone chips marks in the paint on the rocker panels and on the rear fender, in front of the rear wheels. I've spent a ton of time and money using clear films and the Apsis products protecting my cars (both C5 and C6 Z06s). Has always been a nusiance to me, planning protection before I even buy the car. Does anyone know if this has been addressed with the C7?

If not, guess we'll find out when some of these first owners hit the street.

I had my C6 for 6 years. Had 56K miles on it when I sold it to buy my C7 and drove it on several road trips. Had practically no rocker panel nicks and chips on it when I sold it. Hopefully the C7 will fare as well.

All C7s have clear film applied at the factory to protect the vulnerable area where the rocker panel kicks out ahead of the rear wheel.

Ah, you are looking for this new optional attachment, code SWP (available in body color for $1,995 extra)

Last month at Carlisle I looked for this on the new C7's that were there, and sure enough there is a clear film that runs from just in front of the rear tire, to about the middle of the doors on the rocker panels. Should work nicely at reducing the road rash!

All or the C7's at Laguna Seca had plastic protectors that were cut to fit the rocker panels back to the rear wheel opening. They were all the same size so were probably put on by GM.
I put contoured Altec painted splash guards on my C6 front and rear. They were purchased before I received the car because of the chips I'd had on my '87 and '93! I have the same concern for the C7. We'll see what the after market comes up with. Have a CF roof on order so thought CF splash guards might look OK. Will have to see what is developed. In the mean time, bought some 6 inch wide stone guard plastic I may put on.

I own a 2010 GS with 41,000 miles on it. It is my daily driver. I only have one very small chip along the rocker panel.

The way the rear quarter between the door and the wheel well flares it looks like it will be more prone to chips than the C6 wide bodied Vettes.

That's cool.

I know the widebodies seem to pick up more of that type of damage which is why I asked.

Will be interesting see how the 7 fares in this regard.

My 07 has no chips. I guess it depends on the kind of roads you drive on. And, tracking will do some damage.

Here's your GM Tech-link on the car. Lots of good info including they will have a clear plastic coating in front of the rear wheels to protect from rocks. http://sandyblogs.com/techlink/wp-co...ink-2013-F.pdf

Hey Cruiter,

I asked this in the clear bra thread as well (sorry for duplicate question). What if you do Museum delivery and have them do their rear fender and rocker clear bra application? What happens to the stuff put on at the factory as it would be in partially the same area - does the Museum take off the factory applied stuff then put on their Xpel coverage?

It's a shame they don't cover that whole panel to the seams if that is the "final" coverage area. Clearly inadequate and needlessly noticeable (which going to the panel seams would have avoided).

I will probably remove the ones that come on the car and get that whole panel wrapped so you do not see the edge.

Looks pretty simple:

Maybe the C7 tires are so sticky that once they pick up rocks, they don't sling them off.
