But for ones that are in a hurry and will compromise on that higher level of
suspension deal. Once the new wears off and start seeing C7 all over the place
they will become disenchanted. Its just a fact. They will dwell on it and the
more others who have it talk it up, there's will be the lesser car. It will grate on
them. Just the way things happen. So better get what one wants or even
more options. Even if have to wait another month

Michael (OP) and his lovely wife Kandi stopped at my shore home in Brigantine to show me his new wheels last night.
I really appreciated it as it was in the opposite direction for them. The car is STUNNING!!! As we were talking a gentleman came over with his jaw dropped. And said "I have to tell you, that car is beautiful". Nice endorsement.
Enjoy the wheels!!!

Very nice!
White is just stunning on this car!

Especially when placed next to a white Noble!! um, WOW!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I wish I could help folks out on the impressions of non-Z51s but I just have had little to no experience therewith. Everything on the launch program seems to be Z51 cars, so it's excellent to get a real customer's take on the non-Z51 car.

It was great to meet you too, Brian. I think that is the best thing about this forum, a bunch of crazy motorheads who love cars. Is there anything better?

Not a fact. I never had any disenchantment or a second thought about the Z51 or Z06 (I test drove both) after I bought my '05 w/MR. I suspect if anyone who buys a base Stingray wants to stiffen things up, adding a rear anti-sway or a more stout front anti-sway will be available options either from GM or the aftermarket.

Thanks to both Litumup411 and sccaracer46 for posting your comments. Your reviews have not only filled us in on a non-Z51 car but second, your impressions are from owners who is driving the car as many of us will rather than the high-speed, track-oriented reviewers. The latter have their place but it's what you guys experience that's going to help me make up my mind.

Thanks a million. John

I had a hunch that when Talon90 let the cat out of the bag a short while back that he ordered his minimalist, ie: 2LT, manual w/o any other whistles or bells,it was the way to go for anyone that wasn't going to track the car and or, is going to use it as I do, a dd.

Curious how it was in hard cornering? Did you feel there was a lot of body roll without that rear anti-sway bar?
What about the AFM/4 cyl mode? Did you try this at all and if so, what was your impression?
A couple of questions that I didn't address:

Regarding the self-leveling headlights, I don't believe the car has this since they did not make any movement upon start-up, and they don't lead around corners like some of the Japanese cars do. I didn't pay too much attention to The rpm's at 75. Quite honestly, it was dark, and I was really trying to concentrate on the road. I didn't want to be that guy that wrecks his car on his initial drive home. I did mention about the four-cylinder mode, and there is a little bit of shake in the drivetrain. For me, it was very noticeable when it switched to four-cylinder mode, but if you added just a little acceleration, it switched pretty quickly back to v8 mode. I don't think it's something that I'll use much. Cornering wise, the car handled maybe a little better than my Porsche Panamera that I used to drive on a regular basis. The ride is very similar, but surprisingly a little less road noise. I didn't feel the car was leaning at all, but the seats are so spectacular that they may compensate.

the 4 cyl/8 cyl shift only works in eco mode for the manual trans so you probably were not feeling the AFM unless you were in ECO..

for the AT it's on all the time unless you are using paddles - more a problem.

Yup, I was in Eco in 7th. The automatic car gets 4 cyl mode, and the manual car gets that annoying skip shift. I guess that's the price we pay for good CAFE numbers.

damn..and did oyu feel the shift in and out of 4/8 was distracting/annoying on the trip?

I have a 6.2 camaro and the AFM at highway speed is terrible..like somebody tugging on the back of the car every 30-45 secs...I really hope the vette is better...

Definitely noticed it switching in and out. Not too annoying, but for 1 MPG, I don't see a benefit. While I was cruising, I did take note of the fuel economy, and at roughly 75 mph, I was well into the 30s.

Our last 3 Corvettes have all been Z51, and we're happy with that.
But we have many people in our club, including even some autocrossers, who bought a base C5 or C6 and are quite content with their choice. They give up a little handling but get a more comfortable ride, which is the compromise they wanted.

One size does NOT fit all.
