Why the 2014 Corvette Stingray Isn't Good Enough

The various models(base, GS, Z06, ZR1) of the Corvette are lumped together but the various models(911, Boxster, Cayman) of the Porsche are not, in your chart.
I can't read the numbers(too blurred) but how do the total Porsche models stack up against the total corvette models?

Link to all Porsche sales in 2012 ( the total 2013 sales are not available yet):
"Porsche reported sales of 143,096 vehicles for 2012, up 22 percent than in the previous year, which is a new record for the sports car manufacturer."
"North America remained the brand’s most important market, with sales rising 34 percent to 39,192 units"

I have not even read the OPs article yet, and I already don't give a sh%^ what it says. When it relates to cars the only person whose opinion matters to me, is ME.

GM produce a sports car between 2006 -2009 that was an affordable one.
It was called the Pontiac Solstice and also sold under the SKY and Opel brand.
It cost between $20K and $32K. It sold over 65K units on those 4 years of production.
The second generation was slated to go to Bowling Green on 2012 and be build along side of the Corvette. Of course that all went south when GM had to bailed out.
GM, I am sure, still has does plans for that second generation of the KAPPA platform.
GM,rather than try to make the Corvette appeal to all, at the price range it commands, it can take a page from the selling book of Porsche (Box/Caymen) and produce a sports car like the SECOND GENERATIONl KAPPA at the $25K to $40K price range.
Until then, the Corvette will continue the same sales trend as it has done in the past.

Hmmm...
I own a C6 and would LUUUV to have a C7. When I pull up next to a Camaro, a Mustang, a Mopar product, a Beemer I never feel uncomfortable or intimidated. I am in a vehicle I never imagined owning... A Vette!
I work for a large German company. When I bought the car, I let some of my management and collegues drive it (under close supervision of course). Every single German was suprised at how "Drivable" it was and commented "This would be a car to drive on European roads".
I am 61 years young and my wife and I both agree that it is the most comfortable automobile we have ever traveled in.
On the appearance...
I am new to the Corvette "Club", but it seems to me that every new version is critisized by the owners of the older versions.
Bottom line seems to me that these cars a competative with the rest of the world and may be the best bang for the buck out there.
Given the oportunity to own a C7, is there really anyone who would take a pass on that? I think not. I can't wait to line up the numbers and make my presentation to "She who must be obeyed".

I'm 18 and my C7 is being made as we speak! (no daddy didn't buy it)
I think the C7 looks good enough for youngsters to want to get it but c'mon it's a 51k+ super car and the economy isn't at it's greatest right now.

Back in those days most of the vettes were owned by young guys and out of the friends I hung around with there were 8 that drove a vette.
I have owned a total of 25 vettes and paid for every dime of every one I have owned.

I hope they kill the Corvette before they market it to millennials.
Otherwise it will turn into a slammed, stanced out, turbo 4cylinder, front wheel drive pile of crap.
The younger generation isn't engaged with cars, so I'm sure all these wonderful performance cars of today will probably die out.
Its a shame. But the younger generation (as a whole) doesn't know dick about sports cars.

Amen to that brother, I've been saying that ever since people started comparing other cars to the Corvette. I have no idea why people put so much faith into what other people say, buy what you want, it's that simple.

Umm, maybe it has more to do with the fact that most "millenials" can't AFFORD to drop 50+ grand on a two-seat GT car? I would know, I am one. That's why I bought an 11 year old C5 for less than half of that and drive it daily. Most can't do that either for the reason I have already stated.

He's got a point. My kids 30 & 34 are more turned on by BMW's than my C6 Silver on Red. But the new C7 addresses those quality issues and has the performance, interior, fit and finish (I hope) that they respect.

The C7 appeals to all ages, if anything, more to the younger ages. It sells to all ages. Naturally, do to its price, the cost of insurance and the impracticality of two seats for the family men and women, it will not be as high of a seller as it is to the 40+ crowd.
However, we need a resale market to keep a healthy new market going. Many younger buyers can afford a resale Vette that gets them started on their dream of owning a C7 (or 8 or 9) someday. Younger folks do buy resales. In other words, it is not just about new car sales stats!
