Default Hood Vent Pictures and Answers Needed

Hi.

C3 guy here

Tossing around an idea that's more than likely not going to happen but it's gotten me very curious.

I've been searching for hours for detailed pictures on how the hood vent bolts up to the hood and was going to try to find that part and modify my LT-1 hood to fit the vent. Seemed like a similar fit and wouldn't be too hard to make work...

Also... wondering about water going back through the vent and didn't know how the underhood vent system worked if anyone had knowledge on that? Pretty sure I can modify the hood but might be a bit much to have to figure out my own underhood air flow/water diverter setup.

Anyway... just a crazy idea... thoughts/ideas welcome for/against.
My car isn't stock and actually has an LS1 but just trying to make it a little more unique than all the other LSx swap C3's out there

Stole these pics off google... not my C7 vent or C3 hood!

Exactly what are you looking for?

The vent is wide open through the hood and sits against a matching gasket in the engine compartment that has ductwork to the upper 1/3 of the radiator. Yes, any water will pass through the vent and the radiator.

I'll try to snap a few pics for you shortly as I was going to head out to the garage and do some detailing anyway

just wondering how it bolts to the hood so I have an idea of how much fiberglassing i'll have to do.
2.. where I can buy these pieces at lol.

without the duct work i'm wondering how bad it'll be having water drip down into the engine bay if it's raining or washing car...

There is a thread here where someone removed the hood vent to paint it and posted some pics of the removal. Sorry, I don't remember the details

Thanks

I'll try to find it. All I saw were threads from a vendor selling painted ones.

yeah...I saw that used in an ebay ad. BUT i'm glad I asked here because according to the pictures Ken posted it looks like something else that covers it even more on the underside.

So where would you guys go to buy parts if you needed to?

As far as I can come across I can't find the original air damn and vent online...

Only the painted or carbon fiber vent...and none of the parts I may want to go with it.. :/

Forum vendor GMPartsHouse. Patrick and Gene are great folks to deal with.

As a recent owner of a 72 LT-1, I think it looks like a great idea.

either they don't sell 2014 parts yet.... or their website isn't up to date.

Which is similar to all other GM parts websites I've come across. You'd think the cars been out for how long now? a year? that someone would start getting parts for it to sell....

I get all my parts from Bob at Fitchner Chevrolet. He seems to have the best prices out of all our forum sponsors and he has great service too! You can find his number by Google searching Fitchner Chevrolet. They are in Montana but he gets the parts fast and is a pleasure to deal with. Make sure you tell him your a member here.

Default Update

Well... $250 later and I have a LOT of work to do lol.
This is probably the point I know I've gone a bit crazy...or at least become self aware.

I have a plan on how to get the vent to fit decently but the attachment to the hood is still concerning.

It almost looks like once you have it "snapped" into place(white clips) there's no way to take it off. Easiest thing I can think of is replace the white clips with bolts, then put recessed nuts in the hood. Especially since the holes the white clips snap into must be in the stock hood as they weren't on the parts schematic.

Default Need More Help Please

Hi. Sorry to keep bugging you guys but i'm getting closer and closer and need some measurements. If anyone could help that would be awesome.

I need the length mainly of these 4 areas and if you had some way to get the angle of the slopes that would be incredible!

Some pics(like above) make it look pretty steep, some like what Ken posted make it look nearly horizonal of a slope.
I can't copy it exact but want to get as close as I can before glassing it in.

Come on C7 guys.... you're letting me down!!!!!

Surely you guys have at least a tape measurer I would think. And even I have an angle meter

I can't do hardly any work until I get some closer measurements. If I do it'll just be a guess and might not turn out right.

I'll try to get you some measurements this weekend. Just wondering, why don't you go to a dealer that has them in stock (or someone that owns one locally) and get all the measurements you need? You can even see exactly how it is mounted. You can even come down to Yorktown, VA and I'll let you use mine.

BTW, you can remove the vent using a pry bar meant for removing panels from a car. The Xpel installer removed mine. Amazon sells good ones.

That's great! Now I just need one nice guy with a C7 to go out to his garage and spend 5min helping! lol
this wait is killing me!!!!!!!!
soooo much to do yet no help

My local dealership sucks. They have NEVER had a corvette in their showroom in the 4 years I've lived here. Every time I go there I give them hell about it... but they'd rather stock 5 craparos instead.
