Default GM 8 Speed auto trans...

Question:

Is it possible we will see the 8 Speed automatic transmission from the 2014 Cadillac CTS in the 2015 C7? I know the unit is mated to a 3.6 liter V6 in the CTS and not a V8, and I am no engineer, but it seems likely to me that since GM obviously already has an 8 speed auto on the shelf, with just a little tweaking it would be a natural to make its way into the Stingray...

I personally think we will see some kind of upgrade to the auto within a year or two. My guess is an 8 speed torque converter unit for the 2015 model year, probably similar to what's in the new CTS like you said.

The2014 CTS 8 speed is a Aisin unit

If the corvette goes to a more economical 8 speed automatic it will be a gm built unit that is shared with the new pick up trucks in some derivative format

There will definitely be an 8 speed automatic in the near future. That's all I have to say about that.

I don't really understand the fascination with adding more gears to the transmission. Bigger/more doesn't equal better in many scenarios.

Three reason;
1. Some people like Auto's

2. Performance

3. MPG gains

More gears does nothing for performance in this car. MPG maybe, depending on the trans model chosen.

Fewer RPMs at highway speed doesn't improve MPG? Then why does the 7 speed manual outperform the A6 in highway MPG exactly? My M7 runs 1250 RPMs at 70 mph.

I'm guessing the 2015-16 MY will have a 10 speed auto. GM and Ford are currently working together on a 10 speed auto. Ford has already said the mustang will be getting it.

Its all because of MPG and government mandates - especially now with gasoline prices pulling back some, sales of electrics and hybrids is falling.

There's not a need to add more gears just to reduce RPM in the top gear.

I really hope you are correct. I'd LOVE to see it available on the performance variant. What are the chances that will happen?
