Can someone from the corvette technical assistance
Department please give me a call or pm me?
My rear lid/trunk wil not close unless a door is open and it closes easily.
I really would not like to take car to dealership for them to experiment on my car.
I would just like to know if this is normal?
I thought there is supposed to be some "smart" wire or something like that, that is supposed to energize and open vents allowing the internal pressure out of the cabin allowing the lid to close easily.
Also have to throw my doors with some effort to get them to close as car is so tight ( the tight part is a good thing just need to be able to close all doors and hatch lid)
Very happy with car! Just need to fix this little annoyance.
Any help would be appreciated as this is happening on both my car and my cousins car.
Thank you in advance!

Lots of videos out there showing the proper way to close the hatchback.
Here's just one

Slamming it down is NOT the solution - you may actually cause harm.
If you can not close it as demonstrated in the video, then you really should take it to your dealer for analysis and perhaps some adjustments.

Mine has similar difficulty but will close by doing the push. Seems like the 'smartwire' technology they touted is not ready for prime time...
My C6 closes with less effort and doesn't have the 'improved' technology.

This is unfortunately a completely normal condition currently. There is interference with the gasket which prevents the rear deck lid from closing. You will need to shut the hatch normally and then apply pressure to the decklid to completely latch it. Changes were required to the rear gasket that prevent the hatch from closing as easy as it were intended to close.

Burning Brakes
That's because the C6 had the auto pull-down latch. The C7 does not do to weight issues with the car...

I'd rather have the auto pull down. The device can't weigh that much.

I'm guessing that GM discovered either wind noise or water leakage with the original design seals during testing and had to go back to the drawing board, with unintended consequences.

So there are no magical tension cables with special electric properties that open vents?
Because with one door open it closes like a dream, like it is supposed to.

It would probably be best for GM to add the hotwire / door system to the long list of innovative ideas that didn't quite pan out. At this point the cheapest and easiest workaround for GM would be to program the door windows to drop 2 or 3 inches when the hatch is opened. Less than that won't allow sufficient air to be displaced.

Good point. Mine latches real easily with a light drop ... IF a door or window is open. Otherwise it's air locked, you must push down on the center of the deck lid. That eliminates the gasket theory.

This is what happens when you build a tight car. Thanks for the tight car, it is very quiet!

I have a 2005 C6 I was wondering above the rear license plate under the lip next to the key hatch unlock. I have a rubber covered button that appears to be a hidden button. I have tried everything to get this button to unlock the rear hatch. Can someone let me know how to use this button and what it does? It may be broken but since I just found it I'm not sure. Can someone help!!

One of the first tests would be to open and close the car's access points....no?
