Default How to do a burn-out

I recently saw a video of a late model Corvette doing a burn-out at a drag strip. In the left lane, the car veered to the right and ran into the Christmas tree and timing lights. It was claimed that the traction/stability/torque management nannies was the cause.

What is the correct way to do a burn-out in newer cars with nannies?

They're called nannies for a reason.

Turning off the nannies is what my gut says, but I have no experience with them other then street use with my Suburban.

In the video I saw, it did not appear top be driver error with the nannies off. It APPEARED to be the nannies were the problem.

Well in the OP the nannies are the cause of the plastic on wall, so if you turn them off and it's still an issue then obviously the problem isn't the machine.

If it is preparing to make a pass, someone here (Snorman I think) said you brake and apply gas at the same time. The power overwhelms the rear brakes and the tires spin but the car stays motionless (more or less) because the front brakes hold the car in place. First, I have no idea if this is correct... Second, I would think this is horrible for the brakes if it is true... Third, I would still end up in the wall

I'm a track (road course) type of guy so I would simply run into the wall if I went to a dragstrip

If you don't know how to power brake you shouldn't be trying to drag race. Heck of you don't know how to do a burnout period you shouldn't be trying to drag race. If you have a manual be careful not to ruin your clutch. Just only turn traction control off until you get more experience with the car.

It does hurt / wear out the brakes and wears out the tires. But if you want the tires to hook up they need to be heated up to make them sticky, The only way to heat them up is to do a burn out.

I'm not looking for a p-sing contest with anyone. I have entered hundreds of speed events years back with C3 cars...way before the nannies. Back then it was roll through the water box, power brake the thing (or better yet use a line lock) light'm up, stage, and go.

What I observed on the video was a late model Corvette doing what looked like a well executed burn-out and then the car "crabbed" to the right from the left lane and nailed the barriers around the Christmas tree and the starter. It was as if a nannie applied braking to the right rear.

I am simply trying to learn what likely caused this and how to best prevent it.

Is this what you were told the first time you did a burnout? There is a first time for everything. This guy is asking for some help. Instead some of you come across with a smug, one line quip. Usually it is from a senior member, not always.

Lots of machismo…but no help

keep up the good work! maybe you can turn everyone into a lurker. No reason to post with replies like yours.
