Corvette-specific app ideas for the infotainment system?
I am in the business of making tools for app development and I thought it might be fun to build an in-vehicle app, so I registered as a developer and downloaded the GM SDK.
Any suggestions on something Corvette-specific that people here would be interested in?

I also registered, downloaded the SDK and am looking closely at the API. Unfortunately, the API seems pretty restricted so far, especially for some things I'm thinking about
(someone should start a mail list on Yahoogroups..hint hint...)

Yeah, and anything with interesting networking is going to require setting up a server somewhere talking to the OnStar servers. The user will need an active OnStar account.

As I said, the API (Application Programming Interface) supplied by GM currently offers a pretty limited list of what can be interacted with. I've attached a couple of pdfs of those things

It can display any UI and interact with the user on the touchscreen using HTML and Javascript. So pretty much anthing that is possible on a web page can be incorporated into the UI. There is also some limited ability to send and receive data over the OnStar network, but not a full wide-open internet connection.
There are also restrictions enforced by the app approval process on displaying video and accepting text input while the car is in motion (for obvious safety reasons).

It is not a lock out that is enforced by anything other than the app approval process. Your app has to pay attention to the car speed and self-limit itself not to do those things while moving else they will not approve the app.
Personally, I don't have a problem with it. I think distracted driving is dangerous, and there should be reasonable limits on what people do with apps while driving.

I suggested this to the Valentine engineering department and got a positive email but maybe you're interested...
The new V1 is available with a Bluetooth module that streams data to an iPhone app and displays more information about bogeys on the iPhone. It would seem trivial to write a MyLink app that would stream the data and display it on the infotainment screen.
The app has a display similar to that on the detector itself as well as additional screen that can show the frequency of a bogey and whether it lies within the range of radar used by LEO's. The app also let's you change settings on the V1. It's pretty cool but would be cooler streamed to MyLink.

I am not sure this is what you mean but I have always had a hard time getting a fairly accurate 0-60...0-100...1/4 mile time trying to do all the physical things while keeping the car on the road. My '07 tt I was told could do it but I never figured out how....rrm

Not really my expertise, but it looks like it might be feasible. A quick search shows that there are public domain FLAC decoders written entirely in JavaScript.
I am not sure how integrated it would be with the remainder of the music library searching/browsing functionality it could be made. My first impression is that it would not be like a CODEC plugin on a PC, but that it would be a standalone app that would need to implement all of the library/browsing functionality itself.

Might already be a way but I'd like to change the image. I'd also like the navigation to be more like the cadillac.

None of these are really what you're asking...
I'd love for someone to root/hack/jailbreak the system so we can do whatever we want including
Figure out away to get google maps on screen, maybe by replicating your phones display or whatever
The V1 or even waze ideas sound great
An app to display any OBDII codes, and view more data in realtime would be great. I'd kill for a scanmaster app on a big in car display.
