8 speed auto, good idea to buy first year
As my plans to buy a C7 were never realized due to my work situation, I was wondering what the forum members think about buying a 2015/6 C7 with the new auto 8 speed transmission ( yes I am skipping the manual, I keep my cars a long time and don't want my next new car to be another manual).
Do you think it will have teething problems and cause repair issues?
Would you buy a first year new 8 speed auto transmission from the General?
I have read a little on the 8 speed auto and it sounds like it would be reliable but you never know!

Hopefully, trouble free. I had the A6 in my 2007 for 6 trouble free years. I now have it in my 2012.
I really don't remember any problems back in 2006 when it was first introduced.
Don't worry, it will be covered under the warranty.

I have a first year A6 (2006) and it has been trouble free. I would not worry about getting the 8 speed auto.

I had a 2006 C6/A6 coupe that I bought new and drove for 7 years before replacing it with a 2012 CTS-V A6 sedan. The A6 in my 2006 was a POS except for caddy type cruising. When using the paddles for manual downshifting, it would "lurch" as rev matching was non existent. It was such a poor first year effort, that the 2008 A6 included major hardware and software revisions to include rev matching on manual paddle downshifts and lag improvement. I had my 06 C6/A6 tuned by two well known tuners to try to improve upon the pronounced lag and lurching. The lag was improved somewhat by removing torque management, and after the second tune, it would rev match about 60 percent of the time and lurch the other 40 percent ( and you never knew whether it was going to rev match or lurch until you pressed the paddle). I finally got totally fed up and swapped for the CTS-V A6 with HUGE improvements over the 2006 A6. As a result, I'll wait until at least the second year ( and probably the third year) of the A8 before I make my move to a C7 A8.

life's a gamble, just roll with it.

I had test driven a 2005 A4 and then ordered a 2006 first year A6, never had a problem with it, or, for that matter, my 2008 and 2010 A6's. My later 2008 and 2010 A6's seemed more refined and smoother as I am sure the A8's updates will also be in the future.

I don't think they would bring this transmission out without thorough testing. They would also not put it in the C7 if there was the possibility of it being problematic.

EPA just came out saying they have the worst fleet MPG. Clearly a 10 speed isn't helping them the way you think.

Did I miss something? As far as I've read anywhere, the 8 speed in the Corvette is still pure speculation. I know GM is developing an 8 speed, but are we sure it isn't for another line of vehicles?
I'm just saying, putting off ownership simply for something that may or may not happen.
