When did you fall in love with the Corvette?

The affair began in 1968
For me I was 12 years old living in Germany. My Dad was in the Air Force and my sister was dating a F15 pilot who also was the QB of the base football team. He drove a mud 70's Corvette and with the hero worship I already had for him it was a natural transition for me to love his sports car too. Almost bought my first Vette at age 22 however the insurance cost stopped me. Took me till age 37 to buy my first, a 65 roadster I still have. I jokingly refer to it as my Vasectomy Vette as it was in the day of my snipping with a bag of frozen peas in my shorts that I asked my wife if she minded me buying the 65 (my birth year) I found. Since then I've owned two new Vettes, an 04 Le Mans Commemorative Convertible and an 07 Convertible. Sold the 07 last year and bought a Camaro SS (auto) thinking my bad knees and traffic driving would better appreciate a bigger, boulevard cruiser, I was wrong! C7 will join the family some time this year.

1953: I was 12 and saw the news reel at the show, of the N.Y. Auto Rama and the new Chevrolet Corvette. Then on the Dina Shore Shore, of course TV was in Black & White. I was in love. Dad didn't share my excitement. At the time the family car was a 39 Chevy Club Coupe. No radio. In 1953 Mom and Dad bought a Ford. $ 2300.00. The Vette was over 3000.00 I believe.
I watched the Vette grow into a competitive sports car. 4spd. trannys, many engine options single, dual carbs, fuel injection. 58,59,60,61's just seemed like super fast cars. Then in 1963 the Stingray. I had never seen a car that beautiful. Mid Years ruled.
C4's LT1's, C5's LS1's..LS3' The Corvette was making great strides in Performance.
Fast forward to the C7. G.M. Finally got it right. Now the Speed and performance, technology not only out performed the exotic sports cars, the Corvette was the most beautiful car on the road.
So I guess I have been in love with the Corvette since the very first one.

I remember it as if it was yesterday. My uncle pulled into our driveway with his (then) new 1972, chrome bumper white with red interior C3 Corvette convertible. As a kid growing up watching Speed Racer, this was the closest thing to a real-life Mach 5 I had ever seen, especially considering how big, boxy and ugly the majority of the other cars were during that time!
Fast forward to 1997 when I saw the first C5 do a slow roll into a local gas station. It was Torch Red and had the widest *** I had ever seen on a Corvette. It was my first "had to have it" moment and I kept my promise to myself when I purchased my (then) new 2004 C5 MSG convertible.
Now, I plan to add a C7 Z51 option Stingray sometime in 2015 as I want to wait and see if there will be any changes made for 2016. I plan to keep my C5 vert and maybe someday find a mint, chrome bumper C3 to also add to the stable as I tend to really like the odd numbered generational models!

I was 7 years old when my dad brought home a 1990 C4 black on black. I sill remember my dad cranking up the radio to "Vogue" from Madonna. Gosh I miss the 90's...
My love for the Corvette was reinforced when my dad brought home a 1998 Indy Pace Car edition corvette when I was 15. Ever since then I developed a great admiration for each generation of Corvettes.
I was always an F-Body guy (Trans Ams, Camaros) and so owning a Corvette was a huge step forward and major upgrade from every facet.
Fast forward to today, I truly feel privileged and blessed to still own a Corvette and look forward in the future to build long lasting memories with the greatest sports car on the planet

To be perfectly honest, I never liked Corvettes. I thought most owners were rich and stuck up. I also took great pleasure in every race I won in my bolt on 2005 GTO at Houston Raceway Park. As a matter of fact, one night I was at HRP and was telling a guy about my LS2 engine, and some fat and old Corvette owner walked by and snickered. Then I kicked his *** by a few car lengths. I also kicked another Vettes ***, then a couple of guys who were also Vette owners walked up to say hello and we just talked about cars. Real cool guys.
When the 2009 model year had just started, they had killer deals on all GM cars. I went to the website and couldn't believe the deals they had, plus I couldn't believe the great prices on the Vette. I ordered one that had a $54,000 msrp and drove it out for about $45,000. I was now a Vette owner. I was one of them. This was now as good as a 'bang for the buck' one could buy, and bone stock one night of great negative DA, I took her to a 12.15 in the quarter mile. The car also got 30 mpg going from Houston to Biloxi.
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...aky-scary.html
I traded the 2009 Vette for a 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP as we really needed a 4 door car at that time. The timing was good as I made money on the Vette trade in and got the GXP for a ridiculously low price and 0% interest as this is when Pontiac was shutting down.
The more I thought about the Vette, the more I wanted back in one. My game plan was to try and find a 2013 C6 auto and see how low the prices would go, and how high the rebates would get. I basically wanted to 'steal' one, but that just didn't happen. I thought that with the C7 now on the streets the C6 would not be desired.
I bought me a Mustang GT and had some fun with it, and it was outstanding bang for the buck, but the more I saw the C7s on the road, the more I liked them.
I got back on this site and found out we have a real good dealer on this site with Joe at Classic Chevrolet in Houston. We talked and I found out I was eligible for supplier pricing, I finally ordered one. So I special ordered a 2015 C7 Z51. With supplier pricing I got around $7,000 off MSRP.
So yes, I got over my dislike for Vettes and found out most are cool guys. Even though I'm now a fat and old (60) guy, I will never be stuck up. I found out over the years only a small handfull of guys were stuck up about their Vettes. No doubt part of my dislike was also jealousy.
I do have a Vette cap, but I will never buy Vette luggage, shirts, jackets, or anything much else.
At the end of the day, I'm a car guy through and through. Be it Ford, GM, or Dodge, I'm a fan. I will never ever be a 'hardcore Vette' fanatic......and I have no earthly idea what my next car will be.
I also have this 2014 Dodge SRT Super Bee in the garage which I'm just as proud of..................well almost as proud of.

I started to like Corvettes in high school (1967) and bought my first in 1973 (1969 427) but I also liked a lot of other American performance cars, too. I've gone thru 6 other Corvettes since. I enjoy car shows and meets. Corvettes just don't fit as well in them for me. I really stayed away from the Corvette only shows. The purists drove me crazy. I have enjoyed shows with other cars like Goodguys and NSRA shows. My Corvettes were mostly daily drivers and not the cars I attended shows with. My next and probably the last will also be a driver, that is if I don't get a CTS-V or a Hellcat.

High school, around 67/68. Driver Ed teacher drove a C3 and took me for a ride once. That did it for me. Fast forward to 2005 and the just released C6 body style grabbed my attention & the wife's. When we discussed a purchase she told me it had to be red and a manual. What more could a guy ask for. Have had my 2006 Monterey red coupe since January 06 and plan to pu a C7 sometime this year, either a 15 or 16 depending on what happens at the bash in April.

... i actually sat in 2 different ones. never drove. do like the looks, but sorry guys, its still just a car. i say that, with the proviso that i do not believe in love at first sight. maybe after "driving" "her"...
i had heard abut this, so they actually do have corvette clubs? how do i find out if there are any near me--i might join one. i seem to be really popular with those on this site, so it might be fun.

I saw my first Corvette in 1958 at a friend's parent's house in upstate New York and fell in love (I was 9). Parents moved to LA in 1961 (perfect move) and I lusted after one for years watching other guys cruise Van Nuys Blvd. But you know, at 16 it's too expensive and the insurance is too expensive too. At 18, out comes the 1967 427, 435 HP convertible (see 16). At 23, you're out of college but you're getting married and getting paid $2.50 an hour (1972). At 30, you're making more money but you're buying a house and having children (mini-van). At 50, you're paying for their private schools and college and those loans last forever (old mini-van). And at 64, finally, you buy your C7. Interesting, seeing the quantum power and techno leap in the C7, I guess it was worth the wait! BTW, I still have the mini-van (errands).

When I was a teenager...still have the C4 remote control Corvette that I had when I was in middle school back then. It's displayed in my office with other Corvette items and it still works.

I always liked the Corvette, and almost pulled the trigger on some C5/C6s throughout the years. However, I fell in love with it within the first mile after I pulled away from the dealership in the new C7.

Never liked Corvettes. Watched Captain America 2, and when Scarlett Johansson pulled up in the Corvette near the beginning, I didn't know what it was, but knew I was going to get that car. So I did....

I was a junior in high school and got to ride in a friends new '63 vert. I said right then that I woukd have one some day. Well it took a few years but my wife and I bought a new 1976 Metallic Mahogany Coupe. We've had umpteen Corvettes over our 47 years of marriage and 7 weeks ago today we picked up our latest, a beautiful '15 Laguna Blue Z51 7M coupe. Save the wave!

1954, Chevy dealer got one for himself, his son was a friend. It was and is the coolest car I had ever ridden in. They got it in May of 1955, the month I turned 10 years old. Been a lover of the car for near 60 years!

When I was a kid and turned on our Black and White Philco TV and saw the first episodes of "Route 66" and that Black (61? 62?) Corvette! Took me until March 2014 to buy one! Now it is a full-blown love affair. Does anyone else remember that TV show????
