When did you fall in love with the Corvette?

I started to take notice of the Corvette in the late 50's. Then along came the TV show Route 66,which I never missed. Around about 1964 a buddy got a burgundy/tan ragtop.
I was hooked forever.

I was 12 or 13 years old in 1967. Until then, growing up on a farm, the fastest thing I knew; was the Quarterhorse I barrel-raced at county fairs.
He was very quick, I assure you. We won lots of events.
But my cousin (a few years older) married a guy, who had a 1967 Corvette 427 big block. He was known to have one of 'the fastest cars around'. And he took me for a ride, during a family feast get together. We were sent to the store, to pick up (something).
We took the 'long' way home, and he showed me a little of what that car was capable of.
Of course, I had little knowledge of powerful cars, and nothing to compare (except King, my QuarterHorse) against. But I remember getting out of the 427 Corvette, as a kid with eyes probably bigger than silver dollars..... most likely!!!
What a thrill that was! I remember it still. And I knew then, that someday I'd have something 'like that'. From that day, Corvette always meant something 'a little more special' than just a car; to me.
I had two C4's. But my SuperCharged C5 finally gave/gives me the 'thrill of acceleration' I remembered since all those years ago, in my first Corvette ride ever.

(my memory, from years after my first ride in that '67 big block is; that my cousin told me the car had tri-power carbs, and was cammed and the engine was blue printed, and the heads worked on. So, it was 'more powerful' than even stock (for that model). I think he told me the HP, but I just don't remember. I didn't know enough about that stuff, back then anyways. But, I knew that was a special car, again; Corvette was and is special to me, from that wonderful childhood experience)

I had a ride in my uncle's 1965 when I was eight. Had BMWs, Audis, Porsches, etc but always wanted a Corvette when the time was right. Did a museum delivery of a C6 and got my C7 late last year.

1979, I saw Corvette Summer with Marc Hamill. I LOVED that movie.I was 12 yrs old. I loved Smoky and the bandit, the Dukes of Hazzard, Starks and hutch. But when I saw that 73 custom Vette. I was done. Obsessed. Had to have one. Got my dream realized in 1986. I visited the Corvette summer movie car in Cooperstown NY in 95'. I would love to see it modernized. The left hand chain drive steerstesteering was lame. But the impression it made on me in 79 was timeless.

I guess I was 6 or 7 when the C2 came out, so maybe then. But maybe a couple of years later before I really started being interested in cars. I know that by 66 I was hooked.
But I couldn't afford a C2 or C3 when I was young, and had little interest in the C4 - C6. So I fell in love all over again when I saw my first C7, within a couple of weeks of its release.

I remember that a classmate of mine, Tim, got a new Corvette convertible after his father died in 1964. It seemed like an odd time to get a new car, perhaps his mother felt sorry for him. Anyway he was a real nice guy, but I still envied him.
Jumping forward 50 years, we are having our 50th high school reunion next month and a mutual friend of ours said that Tim got a lime rock green 2014 Vette last fall. No doubt he will be driving it to the event and I will be driving my 2015 VY Z06.

I've loved Corvettes from their introduction and it took until I was 21 to finally buy my first, a new '65 Vert 327/300 4 spd. This is me after its delivery just after Christmas, 1964.
P.S. And it only cost me about $4,100 !!!

Bondurant Z06 course. I'd never considered a Corvette before that. Now, as much as I respect the car, there are just too many QC issues, especially given the questionable dealership/service department experience.

Well, for me it was a trip to Las Vegas that sealed the deal for me. I rented a c7 for the four days I was there and completely fell in love.
I have always liked corvettes, especially when I saw the c6's... But never really thought I would own one. I even went through a phase where I wanted a viper! (Great car but I just didn't like the styling anymore) I do love all sports cars but the vette really really stood out for me.
I was so lucky to get my hands on a Z06 allocation up here in Canada and I fell in love all over again with this car!
