i have 2 sticks im' currently using, one in compartment and one in console and i've thought that I might damage the one in the console if I'm reaching for glasses etc without looking because of how the flash drive sticks out. So I'm thinking that a SD card is the best route since it should be close to being flush once inserted all the way.
Also I didn't realize that I too had multiple songs listed, I thought that my pc had somehow made duplicates.
thanks for all the info

That's the reason we use an SD card. It is a 32GB model,a and while only about 2/3 full, has over 4300 songs on it, and is the basis for our song library. We leave in it's slot, and if we want to bring something different, we put it on a flash drive and stick it in one of the USB ports. Our USB port behind the screen is inaccessible because it's blocked by a personal protection device.

We rip to Mp3s, usually 192, 224 or 256 kbps. I usually rip them with a program called EAC (Exact Audio Copy,) which actually allows VBR (Variable Bit Rate) ripping with a specified minimum bit rate. Average file is 5-6 MB. 1024 of those equals 5-6 GB, so you can get probably 5-6000 files total on a 32GB SD card or USB drive. The higher quality you rip, obviously, the fewer files fit on the card. However, in an auto environment, I found I can't tell the difference between a 256kbps Mp3 and the original CD. Too many years around loud cars, rock music, and jet engines.
OK, so I've got my C7 PE #055/550 and can't get more than one MP3 to play at a time. I have 10,000+ songs accumulated, most legally (and maybe a few illegally) over the past 10 years. I have always arranged my music files in folders by ARTIST. Seems GM wants me to now create "playlists" but makes NO mention anywhere as how to do so. My ARTIST/FOLDER method has worked for 10 years on many different MP3 players, most recently a SanDisk with a 16meg expansion card. I tried using the dreaded WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER to create playlists, sync'd them onto my 8gig SanDisc Cruise Blade thumb - same results. Am going to try a PNY 4gig formated to FAT32 via WINDOWS but I don't hold out much hope that I'll be able the play CONSECUTIVELY, or RANDOMLY, or SHUFFLE all 150 Jerry Lee Lewis songs in my JERRY LEE LEWIS folder on this "WHIZ-BANG" Infotainment Center. Am headed to the dealer next week and will take this issue up with his tech guy. At my age I shouldn't have to have MASTERS in COMPUTER SCIENCE to play music the way I want to.

As mentioned multiple times in this thread, something about SanDisc hardware doesn't play well with GM hardware. Try another brand. I have had great luck with PNY.
