Default Key slot = New to me

A big pet peeve of mine was that there was no place to put the key in my C6 . I just watched the jay leno video and he puts the key right in the side of the column . Anyone out there using this feature ? I didn't know this existed . I guess live and learn .....

Key fob stays in your pocket

That slot is for when the battery runs low in the fob.

Are your pockets full or do they look like this?

Yup, why not just in your pocket?

No need for your fob to leave your pocket.

I say this is bs. There is no key slot on the column. There is in the bottom of the fob.

I like the keyless system. I have my fob with the trunk key and my house key together on a ring in my pocket. It's nice to be able to just jump in the car and go.

GM should make the slot a place where you can also recharge your FOB. With such a small battery in the FOB, it wouldn't take but maybe an hour to charge it. I am sure all corvette guys could handle an hour drive at some point.

Up till now, it's always been in the glove box. Out of site ! Makes me wonder what made them put it on the side of the steering column.

Ok , so you are not supposed to put the key there unless your batt. is low or you are reprogramming , correct ? .....

Correct. As others have said, there is no need for the FOB to ever leave your pocket except to perhaps get to your house keys that you might have clipped to it.

In fact that can be downright dangerous and could strand you somewhere. I can relate the story if you really need to hear it

My '62 had a key slot. You just put the key in it, turned, and the car started.
