Waze app on my phone seems to work pretty damn well and it shows where road hazards, cops and vehicles are stopped on the shoulders...I think I'll save my for more important things.

I too am a big fan of the Waze app. I've used it about three months now and have yet to see a cop that I didn't already know would be there. The road construction and traffic flow are super as well. The GPS navigation is as good as it gets and the voice turn by turn is right on. You can also choose alternate routes which is a plus.
I use the IMagnet with the garmin 17mm ball sticky mount both available from amazon.com

It's a lot of money but the big screen and integration with the rest of the car, DIC, HUD, etc. make it desirable. Personally, I like it a lot and use it frequently. I do not regret the purchase.
If you are handy, this works as well. I have traffic , iPhone interface etc... Plus free updates for life. I'll save the $650 for something cool, like front rotors that I don't have to put those stupid assed rings on.
Yeah, I especially like the dangling power cord and the need to take the thing down from the dash and hide it every time I park the car so as to not attract thieves and then to have to set it up again for the next leg of my trip. Those portable aftermarket units are just so friggen convenient!
See Post 45 on this thread for a way to mount your after market GPS with out dangling cords and can hide it when you park.
I would not recommend the factory navigation unless a) you want the 3LT (which IMHO is worth it by itself) or b) the PDR. If you are happy with the 1LT or 2LT and don't care about the PDR, pass on the Nav system and buy aftermarket system.
Don't waste your money. Just go to any 7-11 and pick up a couple of hag strom maps driving while looking at maps is same as texting and driving. Just kidding. Some members have no sense oh humor. Nav is well worth it. Go for it.
I like the navigation system on my 2015 coupe and given the choice I would buy it again. The large screen and integration with HUD and DIC are very nice features. Is it worth the price? Only you can answer that question.
Love the navigation on my C7... It also will be worth it when or if you ever want to sell your C7 at some point in your life. I suspect others will want the navigation feature in the C7 they buy second hand but of course, not everyone will want the navigation add on in the C7 they buy.
if you are frequently unfamiliar with your destination, i would get it. I have it because the car i bought (off the lot) had it. Was not on my list of must have options. It also had the carbon fiber dash treatment, which i was not looking for, but that is really sharp! Wish the shifter surround plate had the cf treatment. Waiting for a vendor to come up with it.
