Default Daytime Running Lights

Is it possible to turn the DRLs off? I see no reason for them on a bright sunny day and would like to be able to douse them when I want. Don

???
Yes, it is possible. Lighting 6-3
"To turn off the DRL, turn the exterior lamp control to the off position or shift into P (Park). The DRL will stay off until the control is toggled again or the vehicle is shifted out of P (Park)."

I don't understand why you would want to turn them off. I want to give everyone as much opportunity to see me as possible. They are noticeable from a distance, even in bright sunlight.

I like em on too...they look very cool. Obviously everyone now is on the LED DRL bandwagon and some are just downright ugly and way overdone. The Germans are wretched excess.

Chev got this one right, they look like a pair of eyebrows with a steely glance.....and simple too.

I always disabled the garish bright amber DRLs on my C5s and C6s because they were ugly and overpowering. But the C7 DRLs are decent looking and colorless so I leave them on. If you don't like them simply train yourself to rotate the headlamp switch toward you each time you start the car, just as we did on C6s

WTF would you want to, it's not as if you see them and they provide an extra measure of safety.

In theory, not running DRLs in bright conditions would result in less electrical load on the alternator, thus better mileage and longer life for the lighting system components. I’ll readily admit that I’d probably never see a mileage gain. Don

They are LEDs, so the electrical load is minimal. LEDs also last a very long time.

I'd like this grill (or the SEMA)

Just curious and probably a reaction to old coots who apparently think that if DRLs are good, then high beams 24/7 must be even better. High beams during the day, particularly poorly aimed ones, are not helpful. Don

So if you have an accident and the other person's insurance finds out this government mandated safety feature has been disabled, how do you suppose that will go?

Where do you think I said disabled in my post? I never said that, I said turn them off, big difference. In both of our 2009 GM cars you can easily and quickly turn them off or back on. It would be helpful if you read the post. Don

Turning them off is disabling them...I disabled my 13 honda accord by pulling a fuse.

Many traffic studies around the world show daytime running lights reduce multi-vehicle crashes by 10%-20%. Fewer drivers will be injured and insurance costs will be lower for C7s. What's not to like?

I used to turn 'em off all the time in my C6 as they generate a LOT of heat and can actually burn the socket. In fact, mine did on the drivers side and had to replace it.

Of course those bulbs pull a lot more current than do the LEDs and I'm sure that is not an issue on the C7.. .Just sayin.....

As for some sort of legal liability for turning them off? Sounds silly to me but than again, there is probably some dumbass jury out there that would be stupid enough to fall for that idea....

it is possible tho that in a red or yellow car, if other drivers can't see you coming, they won't necessarily see you with DRLs either.

what liability would that be since there are car mfrs. that still don't make it standard on their cars?
