CB and 18 wheelers going the opposite direction, along with a Fuzz Buster on the dash, make for some high speed fun.

Umm... yeah, you know...
like 65 in a 55 mph zone

I just use a BaoFeng UV-5R. Good enough for me.

Guys... Do you have a phone? Do you have internet on that phone? Then download Zello. Tada. Problem solved.

Use it on my cruises. Perfectly fine.

Cell phones will not work here. Lack of towers.
So CB would be an option... A terrible looking option.

Looks like I will be buying a new antena mount, modding my C5 mount does not appear to be an option,

This thread is a zombie! 3/21/2014 and it's baaaaack! Back in 16... Back in 18... Back in 19! More lives than a cat!

We use the GMRS/FRS radios tuned to channel 7. My license plate frame is my antenna. It is hooked to a HAM radio in the car so "breaker breaker 19, how about a smokey report" doesn't constantly ring in your ears.

Reminded of the 1970's when one needed a CB set as radar detectors were not very good and if you passed an 18 Wheeler much faster than they were going, one might send a "smoky" after you to get them off their truck! Had to hear if that happened as the troopers were listening to that channel! As long as you could sound like a trucker you could get info on Smokey's! Even living in OH I could sound like a trucker with a Southern accent! "Hey good buddy, this is the South bound Double Z's- spot any bears on this I79!

Installed a stubby tunable antenna on the roof where the interior light was located that allowed the cable to be hidden in the light, side and molding across the window. Also recall the Z Club News showed a way to mount the CB set on the roof! Can still feel my arm going numb from holding the bracket in place for about 6 minutes as the 5 minute epoxy cured! Held find and mic hung down on a coiled cord!

The antenna looked great as I had spray painted the base to match the car. All was fine until I raised the hatch and it hit the mount! Removed cut, filed a large notch into the plastic base. and repainted - all was fine and sold it with the car!

PS: Regardless of it being an old post, folks are still using CB's as are truckers! Talked to one and asked why at the local truck stop! Just not using that one channel we did in the '70's!

The Small Tunable Antenna Looked Better Than A Large Whip!

I think you're missing a significant point: we're radio nuts! The reason I have a Corvette is because of Smokey and the Bandit.
