Default ACS kit.....To drill or not to drill

Just installed acs rocker panels and front splinter... I debating to use 3m or just drill.... The oem bolt holds the pieces perfect and maybe the tape will be the enough top hold down the kit...I guess I'm sleep on the decision....
My car is show and no go, so maybe the down force won't effect the body kit, I will push the car on the highway but no track or drag strip for me...The defectors got lost in the shipping so hopefully ACS will rush me the pieces....kinda glad I got the satin black instead of carbon flash...

I've been using 3m VHB for years and it will hold most anything as long as surfaces are prepped correctly. The splitter has to be bolted, no question. But my skirts are on in the middle with VHB. 50/50 alcohol/water in a spray bottle, then acetone on the areas and then 3m 94 adhesion promoter and you can hang off the skirt.....downforce my a$$ on the sides....

Hard to decide to do... Had the same decision when putting the skirts on my GS, but better to do so than lose 'em. Once yOu get over the trauma of drilling the holes you'll forget all about it and won't ever notice them.

Are you really ever going to take them off to go back to stock?

NEVER Drill them and keep them looking good.

3M tape fails at high speed. I had two spoilers I put on using the exact method described above, they both came off at high speed.

Do it once and do it right.

So on the rockers, if there are 5 bolts at the front and two at the back, a failure of tape in the middle causes them to go bye bye? I doubt that on my installation. My tape runs from bolt to bolt. Nomarguement on the spoilers the front is all bolts, has to be with wind downforce.

But Not concerned about the sides, as I don't do Daytona, I'll always tape and Lashway, the seller, agrees....and why they don't come predrilled. But I'm open to some unknown torque I may not be aware of, I'll put the car up on the lift and inspect every 120 days and report back....

I drilled mine (spoiler and Z07 rockers) and glad I did... 'specially the spoiler.
See here:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c7-g...both-lose.html

Would have been a pain removing the spoiler to fix it if it was taped instead of simply unbolting.
As for the side rockers... if I need to repaint them it will be so much easier to remove if
bolted on.

I just put the acs splitter and side skirts on my car last night. I used the factory bolts/screws along with tape on the sides.

The splitter was installed using the factory bolts/screws, no tape. However, I drilled the recommended 3 holes on each side.
I think there is more down force on the from splitter. I don't think the sides experience that much down force. Only time will tell.

Thanks
Al

If you don't want to install the kit properly than don't do the install, period. If that thing dislodges and bangs up the side of your car you will be sorry. Anyway, you stated the car is mostly for show, why put a performance option on that you will never use. I personally hate those things, ruins the look of the car.

Kinda hard looking at "side ways photos" but Iam also going to have them paint mine the same color as the GM Corvette Black. Iam not a huge fan of the carbon flash either.
