Yea... I know what you mean... I just completed the oil change on my C7 and it only took 6.5 quarts after presoaking the oil filter. The dipstick shows one bar shy of max full. Right where I like it. I will check it again tonight just to make sure it is still at that level.

Thanks for the posts.

The more the better...Oil is also a cooling medium..More oil, more heat dissipation..

What is your rationale about why you don't keep it topped off?

The American way of the more the better doesn't necessarily hold true in this case.

I'm not sure I have a reason, other then I want to make sure I do not overfill the engine. If I am within the hash marks, this is an acceptable range per the manual. I think this particular dipstick would also be difficult to read if the engine was overfilled with oil.

Thanks for the posts.
I never fill to the tippy top either. Slightly low will prevent oil from getting into the PVC system.

Don’t feel bad, my G8GT with the 6 liter L79 engine takes 8.8 qts and it’s a wet sump engine. Don

My Lexus isf 5 liter wet sump takes 9.5 quarts on 5000 mile changes and looks like brand new at change time, maybe more is better.

Mine looks clear on the dipstick but I find it hard to believe that the oil draining out is clear, mine certainly isn’t and doesn’t burn a drop in 7 mo. Has to be picking up carbon fouling for all that time. Don

Good to know what the oil capacity for the non-Z51 car is.

Too many Americans never check their oil. With some cars now having 10k-15k oil change intervals, cars were running out of oil. Manufacturers are now increasing oil capacity by a few extra quarts for insurance. So the negligent owners are less likely to blow their engine, all the rest of us just have to buy more oil.
