What Do Other Exotic Car Buyers Think Of The C7? Read This

Scraping the splitter.
Every 991 911 is not at least a 400hp C2S just like every R8 isn't a 520hp V10. But every C7 Corvette is at least 455 hp and weighs about what a 911 does (or less) and is much lighter than a 3600#+ R8, particularly a 430hp/317tq V8 R8.
So yeah...even a base C7 would stomp a 350hp/287tq 911 C2 pretty badly.

Here's Car and Driver's comparison test. The C7 was 2.1 SECONDS a lap faster around Willow Springs (1.6 mile track) than the 911 Carrera S. That is not even a contest. Also, the Carrera S they tested had carbon ceramic brakes and was a PDK equipped car, I bet the gap would have been even larger if it was manual verses manual (is PDK worth 1/2 second a lap? A full second?....)

I don't think the OP meant the C7 is an exotic.
Or maybe he did...

I will say, this is the first american car (I've had couple Ferraris and some Lotus and now on an AM) I'm considering buying in decades. Prior to this the only vettes I was really attracted to were the late 50s early 60s cars. This new C7 just has great looks, the interior is very well done and I'm thinking next year...........
I do wish GM would quit recalling everything they build tho, the fact that the C7 is built by GM is the one negative to the equation of Vette ownership.

IMO anybody disputing their "very immature comments" is clueless or in denial.

Anyone that buys a car based on a track time when they have no intention of tracking is making a big mistake, it tells you very little about how that car will perform in the real world.

You're missing my point, what type of person buys a car based on statistical data they will never come close to achieving? On the street, where 99.9% of folks will drive these cars, who honestly will be able to tell the difference? The times are close enough no one will. What they will notice is one has the low end torque, the other really comes alive later in the revs. They drive totally different and IMO are both fun for different reasons.
And I would submit that there is a quite a gap between, say, a 460 hp Z51 and a 350hp/287tq 991 Carrera or 430hp/317tq R8 (that is several hundred #'s heavier than a C7).
Get it yet?

You know all R8's are not V10's, right?
In fact, a base or Z51 C7 will "eat an R8 for lunch" if it's the 4.2 V8.

The V8 is 430hp and an anemic 317ft/lb of torque in a car that weighs over 3600#. They're not that fast.

The sad part is even on a Corvette forum.. we have several people who do not realize that the base Corvette will easily outperform BOTH the base 911 and R8. Only underlines how many people simply buy sportcars for the brand status, while having no idea what the car is actually capable of.

Factually correct. As usual.

That said, the only way to determine who will eat who's "lunch" is track times, and in that scenario, a C7 Z51 is MUCH faster than a 911 Carrera S (as shown in the C&D comparison....same driver, same day, same track).

Regarding the tail lights, if somebody took the time to look at the entire Chevrolet line up they soon would realize the common theme are the rear lights are similar in almost all the new models. ROUND IS the NEW SQUARE....get over it, Round would look awful.

I've been a Vette driver since 1990 - five Vettes, more than 600,000 miles... DDs all....
I, now, split the DD duties between a CTS-V Cadillac (MN6) and an old 328 GTB Ferrari...
Many family sedans will run alongside the little F-car..... but they will _not_ handle anywhere nearly as well when one gets to the twisties - story over.... that goes for my C6 Vette as well. I have not yet driven a C7.... but...
In more than 26 years of owning and driving Corvettes in 45 of the lower 48 states I have not received TOTAL the looks, questions, photos taken of and with the F-car that I've owned just 11 months....
Will I trade the V-Caddy for a C7? Maybe - 2015? - but the F-car stays..... many of you will understand this statement, I fear most will not.... There are cars and then, there are cars....
BTW, I still wave, no matter which car I'm driving....

Why are you guys getting hung up on numbers? The base Corvette has been outperforming these other cars for years. But numbers only didn't work. The numbers were already there, it’s the rest of the C7 that has impressed other car owners.
It finally can measure up to these other cars in more categories than just performance.

Look, its no secret with cars, watches, clothes, etc.. more often than not people buy the more expensive items for the social status, buying experience or even just to have accomplished such. But if you are going to attempt to correct someone about a car's performance, then at least be intelligently informed enough to know that car A will outperform car B.

It's not just the C7 looks, it has wonderful performance, comfort and technology!! We have had C1,C4,C5 & C6 and the C7 is way above comparison.
