I would fabricate a button cover, "cover the cover" with 3m Di noc CF....it also would not be hard to bore out the opening a bit deeper so it was recessed more.....

Yea, I have visions of raming my knee into that dash protrusion. Have not yet, hopefully never. I am surprised it was not addressed by the test engineers.

Oh..... I guess you were referring to a 1LT, I guess if I would have read the title to your post better I might have seen that.

I can't count how many times I've gotten into my car and had my leg hit the hatch release. Whoever thought that was a good place for it and also thought the button should stick out beyond the dash surface didn't have their head screwed on right. I wonder if I could just unplug it.
That is all. Had to vent.

I can see how that would be an issue for some, as mentioned maybe a 2LT+ switch will work. My guess is the connector is different but maybe not, easier to unplug the thing though (if everything still works with it unplugged). Can open it with the fob if you really have to open it from inside the car..

I haven't hit it in the 3LT on the way in or out, but have turned off the alarm instead of opening the trunk. I'm not sure that I would have put those two buttons side by side as they did, I always seem to hit the wrong damned one. Maybe i'll get used to it though over time.
Unrelated, I also think the fact that you have to push down the convertible trunk to close it is less than desirable. Hopefully it'll loosen up a bit as it ages and might be able to be dropped shut like the hood.

I like the idea of putting the start button there instead of the hatch button, the efficiency would be great.
I sent a note to my engineer friend at the Corvette factory and indicated I hit the button a few times a week. I think a simple delay of .5 to 1 second on the press of the button would eliminate the issue for me. My first leg in brushes it.
