Default The 1LT hatch release button is an engineering blunder

I can't count how many times I've gotten into my car and had my leg hit the hatch release. Whoever thought that was a good place for it and also thought the button should stick out beyond the dash surface didn't have their head screwed on right. I wonder if I could just unplug it.

That is all. Had to vent.

You have a 1LT? The button is different on a 2LT & 3LT as they have the alarm button there too. I never had a problem hitting it getting out, it's getting in.

1LT Button is bigger! It's the where the 2LT has two buttons the 1LT is the whole thing!

I do it occasionally too. It's usually when I'm making myself comfy and adjusting myself.

The C6 had the buttons there too but they were recessed in.

Do you have your easy exit/entrance set to full back position?

I'm 6'2", my seat is in full back position at all times. No easy exit/entrance feature on a 1LT anyway.

ok, got it. I'll mention it to a GM buddie next time I see him...will let you know what the basis is for the design, or if they tested for it.

If you hit it that often just unplug it, that would **** me off if I had to get out and close the hatch every time I got in. If enough people complain they may redesign the switch so its harder to push or more recessed, thats a big 'if' though.

Since I have to lift my left leg into the car with my hand, I have never hit it.

Not quite there myself but almost I hit my leg on the C4-like dash protrusion way more than getting near the hatch release.

If this, is all the time just remember to watch the leg it would only take a time of two for me to remember problem solved, and I'm 70.

6'1", bony knees, and 1LT. No real problems here. I hit it once when trying to get out in a cramped spot where I couldn't open the door very far. Of course it also doesn't seem like it would hurt normal usage if you recessed the button a bit. Now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever intentionally used the button.

I've hit it a couple times too.

Not very well thought out if you ask me.

Probably someone that came from the Pontiac Aztek design team...

During the two months I have owned my C7, I have never accidentally pressed the hatch button. But I am only 5'9" and 160 pounds.

I hear ya, I think it's more of a skeletal issue, than anything to do with weight.

Ask about the "skull cap on the dash over the HUD. Thats where the dash is screwed up. Hatch button is fine!
