I've seen a few posts on roof noise, mine started as occasional, and became chronic. As in driving over a road line reflector would make it rattle.
Today I lubricated the touch points with INOX using a q-tip (for the second time) but today I also tightened the rear clasp. Requires an allen key to loosen the hook. I was only able to turn the hook 1 complete turn but, it completely solved the issue. Roof is silent. Hope it lasts.
This is the first post I've read concerning the snap, crackle and pop of the roofs that was very similar to my '08 C6 coupe and a major gripe on the forum at the time.
When we drove our new C7 back from Independence, MO 2 weeks ago, my wife was the first to notice the old "cracking" sound and I had to agree with her. It seems to have dissipated a bit but I have done nothing to mitigate it.
When my salesman was going over the car with me he said the only thing in the car that was also in the C6s was the hardware that attached the roof.(whether or not that's correct someone else will have to answer).
Most of you on the forum will remember the "fix". I went to Home Depot and bought those little "e clips" and stuck them on the posts with a dab of some kind of grease. That seemed to work and I don't remember any more noise after that. I would hope that the current issue is not a replay of that scenario but others with more knowledge will have to chime in here.
I'll try to search for that problem and fix here on the forum as I can't remember the size of those "e clips".
In the mean time how many are having this same problem of crackling roofs? Guess my new hearing aids work too well, but turning up the volume on the radio is not an option any more.

Same story here with the early C6 roof and the e-clip fix. Then GM came out with a different front latch system for the C6 roof which looks similar but not identical to the C7's if I remember correctly. It was better but not 100%.
I don't think the e-clip will work in the later C6 or C7 roofs.

Thanks for the tip because my roof was acting the same way and there too much space between to crook of the hook and the loop so I taken my car into the dealer later this month for a lube --oil- filter and I see if they can fix it because I know my C5 roof fit a lot tighter than this roof on my C7 !!!! Wayne
Mine makes the same noises. Here is another picture of the latch and the allen screw that keeps the hook from turning.
The bright spot in the middle of the picture is where the 5/64" allen key goes.
Despite loosening that screw I could not turn the hook by hand. I used a crescent wrench and a towel (scratch protection) to turn it. I turned it one full turn, I will see if that helps and report back.
Thanks for posting this. Mine was making loud popping sounds fairly regularly. I tightened the rear clasp today and so far it's working. The problem wasn't constant though so hopefully it's fully fixed. Has anyone else on here had any longer term success?
this solved my problem as well. it required almost 0 effort to shut my latch as it was set from the factory. I turned the hook two turns and so far - no more noise.
also, for anyone having trouble turning the hook - unscrew the allen screw further than you think you need to.

Since I was doing a lube-oil-filter today I had the dealer adjust the gap between the hook and the loop from 3/8 " to 1/8" with 2 turns at the rear clasp !!! Thanks local dealer !!!! Wayne
