Default Drag strip track rules...say what?

so I been looking into getting over to one of the track in my area, either Bradenton or Palm Beach for the 1/4 mile. After looking on the site it looks like there is a slew of ridiculous rules. Albeit, I know rules are there for safety, but with more and more cars coming out from the factory that are 11-12 second cars, how are these justified? some of the rules they list are below from the Bradenton track website:

- Drive shaft loop required for cars faster than 13.99 (recommended for all).
- Seat belts (5 point harness for cars faster than 11.99) required.
- Cars faster than 11.99 require roll bar, fire jacket, 5 pt. harness
- All cars faster than 10.99 require cage.
- Convertibles faster than 13.49 require roll cage or roll bar or roll hoop.

Also on another part of the site which I cannot find now they list any car that's 13.99 or faster has to have an engine diaper as well. Really? really. c'mon..

The new C7 can run an 11.6 stock (best time recorded on CF in the fast list sticky). So can you get by with the IHRA rule for stock cars? so if you add an intake your DQ'ed from the stock car rule and have to do like 5K in upgrades just to do a few runs?!?! that's ridiculous!

You don't need the driveshaft loop for a Corvette since the torque tube enclosed. The rest of it is the same as it's been for a while. Was like this back in 2001 in Houston where I first tried drag racing at the track in Baytown.

How is it ridiculous when $5k in upgrades will get you trapping in the 120s? The walls don't know that your car is close to stock. The walls just know how fast you are going.

I ran my '08 Z06 at SAR (San Antonio Raceway) and didn't hear a peep when I went 11.4@128. Now my buddy and his ZR1 gets booted off for going 9s at 150+ but that's another story

Nhra came out with a rule change stating cars 2008 and newer could go down 10.0 in stock form.

Problem is it is worded kind of strange and a lot of tracks either don't understand it or don't know about it.

Find a track that doesn't host NHRA sanctioned events. I know Atlanta Dragway can become really restrictive. My V broke into the 11's the first time out .

That doesn't sound like an NHRA track. Most of the cutoffs for the NHRA are at 11:50 (roll bar being the biggest one).

I never heard about the 10 sec. rule if a car is stock. To drag race my stock motorcycle I had to get an NHRA license (it would turn in the 9's).

Here's the rule mentioned earlier. Not sure if it's applicable to all track operations, or just a particular series.

NHRA DRAGS: STREET LEGAL STYLE PRESENTED BY AAA (Page xiv) (5th paragraph)
Additionally requirements and specifications for Street Legal are the same as those for the Summit Racing Series with the following exception: Unaltered 2008 OEM model year and newer production cars running slower than 9.99 and 135 mph do not have to meet the requirements and specifications for the Summit Racing Series except for the following: Convertibles and T-tops must meet Summit Racing Series Roll Bar and Roll Cage requirements, All drivers must meet the Summit Racing Series Helmet and Protective Clothing requirements.

I just looked, Bradenton is an IHRA track, so the NHRA ruled likely do not apply. Find an NHRA track and you should be able to go down to 10.0 without a roll bar if your car is "unaltered."

Note: You'll need a certified jacket if your car is supercharged and you go faster than 11.49.

I took a stock 2014 Corvette Stingray Z51 Convertible to Bradenton earlier this year for a Thursday night event and did 8 runs with my best being 12.2 and worst being a 12.6. No rollbar or any other non-factory restraints. Guy at the gate said keep the top up and all the windows up as well during the runs.

It was my first time to a track and didn't think anymore about it.

The only two track that are anywhere near me are Brandenton or PBIR. I think both are IHRA .

Just take a helmet with you to PBIR and you will be fine.

See if they have a Test & Tune night.
They don't check any of this then.
