I missed that and recorded the event but haven't watched in full on the DVR yet... although good timing enabled me to catch this:

1st retail 2015 C7... VIN #0001

I can see someone maybe wanting the first 2014 C7 (1st C7)...

But a 2015 for that price?... It really don't seem that special.

Default Vin 0001 is worth more...

I've seen 55 T-Birds with mid production vin#'s go for maybe $30K but I saw the 55 T-Bird Vin # 0001 go for upwards of $100K a couple of year ago. There is significance in having Vin#0001 to most collectors.

People have chastised for purchasing a few thousand over MSRP. Will we hear from the $400,000 purchaser?

That's Mr. David Ressler... world renowned Corvette collector and Chevrolet dealership owner in MT and ND.
Amongst many of his prized Corvettes he also won/owns the first 2009 ZR-1 w/ VIN #001... aka Blue Devil One (1 of 1 made).

I don't think it was a Callaway.

You are correct, but it did go for a good cause. If I had his money, who knows how I would spend it.

These cars were all sold for charities so the bulk of the price will be written off as a donation. The first C7 went for $1,000,000 to Rick Hendrix at Barrett Jackson.

Yup, don't understand why anyone wanting to buy a car would go to an auction to do it...

Not to mention he owns at least 1 of every year since 1953 to present. His 1953 is vin 003 the oldest corvette in existence. He is an awesome guy and very generous person.
