As I remember, the magic breakpoint is 24K miles. If you buy GMPP before that, it's not much more than if you bought the same package with zero miles.

So if you buy a 6 year GMPP when the car is brand new, you're really only getting 3 years of additional coverage. Seems stupid to me.....

Great. Good to know about the 24k point.

Yes, it's not a 6 yr warranty, but an extra 3 yrs, covering yrs 4 - 6, after the original 3.
Question is how much more expensive will waiting to buy 3 yrs from now vs spending $1300 today for a $72k car, for possible need for repairs in yrs 4 - 6....

Sorry but if it's a GMPP warranty (and unless something has changed in the past few months regarding it), it IS a 6 year warranty that runs concurrently to your existing 3 year factory warranty. So you pay for 3 years that you'll NEVER use

This time around I am skipping the extra warranty and simply trading in at 3 years old.

That's my thinking for most of my cars, but HATES it when it comes to trade in time & the dealer will always underprice & never gives me what its' really worth. So half the time, I keep it....

No. I checked this out due to screw in my 1 week old Z51. Dealer refused to replace the tire under warranty. Wanted $425 to replace it (left front). I turned down the tire warranty. They wanted $600 for it. Ended up having the tire repaired for free at the Goodyear store! Those guys took good care of me (as always) and simply reminded me there would be no guaranty the repair would last. That was 3100 miles ago...lesson learned...always get the tire warranty!

Yep. Manufacturer's guaranty is against factory defects, not for road hazards.
That's why I bought the 5 yr road hazard warranty, also good for replacement tires.

I stand corrected. I know that the GoodYear run-flats that came on the C6 were covered by a free replacement road hazard warranty. The warranty was not from GM but rather from Goodyear. I had three of them replaced and had to get Chevrolet Customer Assistance involved every time to educate the Chevy dealers that there was a mechanism they could use to recover the replacement cost from Goodyear. I found some online Michelin ZP warranty documents and it appeared that they offered a warranty similar to GoodYear. Sorry for the confusion.

Edit: I just checked. Michelin ZP tires do carry a two-year road hazard warranty when purchased as replacements, but OEM tires are excluded. Sorry for the confusion.

I purchased the 7yr. 50,000 mile extended warranty on my 03 C5. I had gotten a quote from Ken Fitchner and when I gave The finance mgr. Ken's price he said that he would match it. I guess that was before you could buy E.W's out side of CA.
The only time I used extended warranty is when the rear end started to leak . That was a problem in the C5's. When I had to replace the head light motor it was out of warranty. Never did hit 50,000. Sold the car this past June, and it had just under 24,000.

Agree. I got stuck when I purchased the GMPP on a Saturn and traded before 3/36 and my pro-rated refund was about $50. GM said I used 30 months of the warranty, which was concurrent to manufacturers 3/36 warranty. Seems like the same policies as 5 years ago. Never again.

Wait until you get at least close to the 24 month point of ownership.

I agree. People are told by the dealer it is cheaper if you buy it when you buy the car. Dealers lie. Lots of things can happen in the first three years. The car may be gone by then.

Someone above said there are advantages to having it such as a loaner car. I always thought the GM plan was a mirror image of the original factory warranty. Can someone confirm?

I got the Gmpp 7 year 84000 mile warranty for my 2014 I bought the warranty with 11951 miles on the car. So I am warrantied until 95951 miles. I paid $1650 with $100 deductible. I got it cheaper than what the main forum dealer on this site quoted me.
