High mileage Corvettes?
#41
a vette has different metrics on mileage evaluation. as a second car, a treat, a reward, it is a goal to attain. As such, it arrives on a pedestal to many buyers; and what's the word? becomes a waxer.
put it into service and as a chevrolet magazine recently profiled, a daily driver in jacksonville fl has over 400k on his c5. as good a car as any Chevy builds for a long life.
the lifespan of the C5:https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...n-of-a-c5.html
But, Suzy Soccer mom and Fred Family man is not looking for a used 2 door 2 seater. So, the used vette audience continues to be the young, and the frugal rewarders. The young want a cheap high performance car, but if the rewarders are even considering a used vette, there are so many of their fellow rewarders with the waxers running 1000 miles or less per year that they can put the "less than 10k miles" searchbot on their web search, and still get hundreds of low mileage used vettes. So rewarder vette buyers don't look for a "normal" 12-15k/year used car; they look for a waxer, and the normal use vette's resale values suffer accordingly.
The C5 conundrum (not picking on C5, substitute C6, (or C7 when the C8 comes out))

Back to MPG - I drive in metro NYC- (whats a highway?) Im sure my 5800 miles equates to much more on nice smooth highways (sorta like dog years maybe 1 mile in NYC = 7 miles on rural highways) this is a daily driver 19 GS and im always in sport.

Mileage hits the value of Vettes hard for a simple reason: There are loads of garage queens out there even after 10 or more years. So the supply of pristine old(er) car is much larger than pretty much any other vehicle. There is no need to "settle" for a 10 year old car with 120K on it when finding the same 10 year old car with 30K on it is a pretty easy find...

Update on my friend's high mileage Vettes.
2003 C5 Z06 with a little over 210,000 miles.
2010 C6 GS with 197,000 miles. His 2011 or 2012(I think) Ford F350 diesel just blew it's engine at 113,000 miles.

Not really high miles, but...
We bought our 2009 Coupe/A6/Z51 new, and traded it at 102k miles for a new C7.
That was the most problem-plagued car we ever owned, and it was a huge leap of faith for me to buy another Corvette. After years of problems with GM family cars, we switched to Japanese and never looked back. Depending on how I feel about the ME C8 and how long I live, our current C7 could be my last Corvette, but so far it's doing very nicely.

I just sold my 2000 C5 with 230000 miles for $10000. Had the car for 12 years. Autocross , HPDE's , long trips, and daily driver to work. I miss that car as I am now driving around in a female sports car ( Mercedes SLK 350 ) till my Stingray arrives.
Drive the car. Have fun in it. Use it. It is absolutely worthless sitting in a garage all
nice and clean.
