This is from the owners manual:

ENGINE OIL LOW — ADD OIL
On some vehicles, this message
displays when the engine oil level
may be too low.

I assume the 'on some vehicles' refers to Z51. Therefore, it is imperative that you check your oil level regularly as you will get no warning light.

Can anyone verify this?

Excellent question.

It would be nice if GM didn't use the phrase "on some vehicles" and gave us specific information.

I run my car 1 qt low I have no warning lights.

No low oil sensor on the Z51's dry sump reservoir.

I have the dry sump on my Z06 and no big deal. Just check the oil level the old fashion way every couple of months.
