Default 2015 C7 discounting

Anybody know why the 2015 C7's are being discounted 6% to 9% already? We aren't even into 2015 yet and the discounting is wide spread. What does this mean for the pricing this time next year for the 2015 cars? Then one can read some Forum threads that indicate some dealers are having problems getting C7's. I don't get it.

Snowball effect, one dealer does it the rest do it too.

This time next year new 2015's will be about the same discount, maybe 1-2k less. The cost of the car doesn't go down the longer into the model year you go, they will probably go up!

These discounts are the norm now. You will see even higher discounts on 2015s come July - September of 2015 at the end of the model year run, but then again you are purchasing a car that is almost 1 year old already.

The discounting on the C7s started back with the 2014s in about January.

As we know, resale value is partially effected by how much new cars are selling for. It's a fact of life.

Lot of mark-up in MSRP and plenty of room for dealers to discount and still make a sweet profit.

These cars are marked up 5-10k so there is a lot of room to discount.

I have never really seriously considered buying a Corvette until I saw the C7 so I'm not familiar with dealer allocations and the whole process of selling new Corvettes. To me it looked like Chevrolet was creating a shortage of 2014s to drive up the price for the dealers. Now that just about everyone who really wanted a 2014 has one, the market for 2015s seems to have come back to... normal?

I had intended to look for a used 2014, but people are asking for higher prices than I can get at the dealer for a 2015. It'll take a little time for reality to sink in for those selling 2014s.

The market normalized with the 2014s. Several 2014 buyers got a similar discount to what 2015 buyers are getting now. I got an 8.3% discount in March, smack in the middle of the model year run.

The "serious" used 2014 sellers will be those asking a reasonable price. The majority of the others are probably not all that serious about selling their car.

Production has begun to catch up with demand - some dealers have a number of '15s sitting on their lots and to move them they are offering the discounts. Our small dealership here has two C7s sitting on the showroom floor and have had them for nearly a month. At $70K each, that's a lot of money tied up. Even with the current discounts the dealers are making a profit and buyers are more apt to make the purchase when they can get a decent amount off MSRP.

Starting November, GM changed the allocation method to the traditional "turn-and-earn" system. GM looks at your past 6 months of Corvette sales and will adjust your allocation based on the dealers performance VS the national average. What hurts is having Corvettes in stock for a long period of time. So now there is incentive to move inventory to either help or preserve a dealers allocation. A dealer has to discount Corvettes this time of the year otherwise the car will be in inventory too long.

Good to know about this new system.

On the other hand, it depends on where you are. Good luck not paying Markup in California. Most dealers would not even accept MSRP offers.

What i gather here. Most of the allocations are in the Northeast. If numbers matter trucking is probably cheaper. The discounts now will probably cover trucking to the RIP OFF areas.

It kinda makes you wonder when some folks say the demand exceeds supply. If that were really true, why would a dealer need to discount?

I agree. I didn't think I could possibly get a good offer on a 2015 but just asked for the full work up anyway. They made me an offer I couldn't walk away from. A loaded 2013 GS compared to the minimum I needed for a 2015 C7 and the C7 was only $6K more. No question, bring on the C7.

When I was looking some dealers even had used C7s for basically the same price as the new ones - and people are buying them. I guess some people want one right away since they've heard of all the ordering delays from last year.

Actually sales of new Corvettes don't drop that much during the winter months. Surprising how well they sell in January and February compared to June and July

Just so you know, I bought miy 2015 at supplier here in SoCal at supplier, MSRP of 59,910 and I paid just under 53,000, so it was done here in SoCal, plus the dealer delivered it to my house on a flat bed. They have a Loaded 3LT 2014 Z51 Convertable white / red interior, late build that he well sell at supplier.
