Default Must change oil on dry sump Corvettes at 500 miles

Hey guys, I just received this notice and thought i should share this with everyone.

Effective Immediately, GM is changing the required maintenance schedule for all 2014/2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes equipped with dry sump oil systems. For vehicles that have not had the first oil change performed, the new schedule will require that the oil/filter be changed immediately after the break-in period, which occurs after the first 500 miles of operation. Once the break-in oil change is performed, the Oil Life Monitor should be reset and customers should follow the Oil Life Monitoring system for all future oil change needs. Additionally, a 5th oil change has been added to the Included Maintenance program for these vehicles.

Take care of your favorite vehicle

Why only on the dry sump engines though? The engines with the wet sump oil system break in just the same as the dry sump ones.

Must have something to do with the engine failures like the one Car and Driver experienced.

I'm wondering if this has alot to do with overfilling of oil?

I wonder if we all get new Vette's if we have Z51s with over 500 miles prior to this announcement

If that was the reasoning they would either send a note to the engine plant (or Bowling Green, whichever puts in the factory fill of oil) about the proper fill level, or they would advise the dealers to double check the oil level properly, but not do a complete change 500 miles later, as then the engines would be running for 500 miles at a possible improper level.

GM is just getting everyone ready for the revised oil change schedule for the Zora mid-engine C8

Will Z51 owners receive a notice of some sort about this change? From GM? From dealer?

Makes just as much sense for base cars as well IMO. I know I have been criticized by many for changing my Vette's oil at 500 and then every 3,000 miles thereafter but to me it's cheap insurance and peace of mind!
