Default Strange noise at throttle tip in

Just noticed this driving today. C7, non Z51, M7, 3,400 miles.

Sound is hard to describe... so I took a video:

Thoughts?

Lots of threads about this.

Cliff notes: Not unusual for Z51 or non-z51. Don't lose any sleep over it

sounds like the air being sucked thru the t.b. or an aftermarket air filter , i take it there were no mods so i would say air being sucked into the t.b.

ok, since I am a newbie to owning a Vette. I would like to bring this subject up again. I can not find other threads for it, so if someone can point me in the right direction. I would appreciate it.

I have my car for 3 weeks now and I know it did not make this sound the first 1 1/2 Weeks. 2 friends can attest to that, as they drove it the first week and now recently were like what happened.

I know it is not air, because the car was sucking air the first week too, with no sound.

I am almost leaning towards cooler outside temperature contributing to it, as the first time I heard it, it was in the 30's over night and when I started it, it had just reached 50, but car was still cold.
And we have had cool nights since. But driving all day in 60 degree weather it is still there.

My other thought is automatics don't notice it as much, because you don't tap the accelerator to get the rev up a bit when starting from a stop with manual.

I think it sounds horrible. I have to totally baby my starts not to have this noise.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Except for the one that say to get over it (negatively). Being told that nothing can be done and I have to live with it, I guess I can accept.

It is a large throttle body and it's the initial rush of air that is passing the throttle plate in the inlet as it opens.

I would agree, but myself and 2 others know it didn't happen the first 1 1/2 weeks I had it. It is very noticeable. no chance we missed it.

Notorious for hesitation/lag in throttle response, which it sounds like. As always, they make an aftermarket device that you can adjust the throttle response to whatever you like, if in fact that is your problem. Now I have to check mine, LOL, Good luck

Just saw another post and this is the device and the guys response: throttle controller from Vitesse (a CF sponsor). It's the best $185 I've spent

Thanks, I saw a video on youtube with a guy installing the Vitessa throttle controller on a comaro, when I was trying to see how the throttle body comes apart. That may be an option if I don't find another fix.

Did you even find a solution to this? I just purchased a '16 Stingray Z51 with just under 11,000 and this is one of the first things I noticed about the car. I think it sounds terrible too....thought something was terribly wrong. My '01 Z06 never made this sound.

Hello,
I had asked the dealer to look at it last fall, and they showed me a few other vettes in the lot, that sounded similar, although not sure if they were as sensitive as mine. So the dealer said they couldnt do anything.
I was hoping to bump into some other guys this spring and see what theirs sounds like.
I will also ask another dealer their opinion, when I bring it in for the next oil change.
Also just had my power steering go out then reset, so I will bring it in soon.

It sounds perfectly normal to me. You basically are hearing the sound that a cold air intake makes cause you kinda have one stock on the car with cone filter . If you really wanna trip open the air box lid and do the same test. It will be much louder and more pronounced

Seems to be a new issue for 2017 for some.
Basically your power steering goes out and it is a bitch to steer at slow speeds. If you shut the car off then restart it goes back to normal.

Happened to me once.

There is a thread here...

I'm due for another trip to the dealer myself so I'll ask them what they think. Of course, I'm fully prepared to hear the usual "it's totally normal."
On a side note, I'm getting ready to install a ported TB from Tony Mamo this weekend when it arrives. Would be curious to see if this changes things or not. Like someone else was saying though, it probably has more to do with the air filter unit.

Just a quick update if anyone is interested.

Brought car to a different dealer for oil change and I mentioned the noise at throttle up.
They brought me over to another car and showed me, same sound. (as expected)
I think it is just more noticeable on M7's since you tend to tap the accelerator a bit.

It's the inrush air. Should hear mine through a low restriction aFe system!

In fact in my Street Rod with an 8.2 Liter engine the long tube headers, 3 inch pipes and straight through Bola mufflers- the air intake at WOT sounds about as loud as the exhaust! It has a 14 inch diameter 5 inch high oiled cotton K&N!

As Tadge said in a post re aftermarket air cleaners; they don't have to worry about the strict noise standards we do in many states and parts of the word and the air intake is the next to the exhaust as a noise generator!

Love that "Sucking Sound!"

It's normal. Ross Perot said it best: Giant sucking sound.

I never noticed it on mine until I brought it in for window tint and wrap. Guy was backing it into his shop and I noticed the sound. Don't hear it from inside. Didn't bother me.
