Switched fuse for wiring radar detector
Hi All,
I am trying to hard wire my radar detector into the fuse block in the trunk of my `14 vert. I always do this in my cars to prevent coil cords etc. from being seen and to give an uncluttered view of the road.
Normally I can find a fuse to tap into that is on a circuit that switches off when the car is turned off. With the fuses available in the trunk I can find none: they all seem to hold power when the car is off.
I will admit that if any of these are only powered during the 5-10 minute period of reserve power when the car is just turned off, then I may have missed the boat on this. When I was running my tests on each fuse I would add the tap to the fuse and start the car or I would listen for the detector to start up.
Any suggestions on which fuse would be a good tap to supply power to the detector and my dash cam are appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

I tapped fuse #37 in the trunk of my vert. Power is off once you turn the car off and open the door. If you sit in the car after shutdown the radio continues play until you open a door. The radar detector will shut off with the engine, then power back up until you open a door.

Good view of the whole back but if you note where fuse 37 is located, bottom right of the fuse panel, there is no need to expose all of it! I just uncovered a bit more carpet than what is needed to access the battery. Suggest everyone will want to see how to do that! Only thing you need to do to avoid ripping the carpet is to pop off the bottom corner of the right wheel cover. Just get behind the plastic toward the bottom and pry out the clip. No need to remove it or any of the upper attachments.

I just did mine yesterday. The switched 12V is the purple wire and ground is the black wire (on the car side of the mirror connector). It took about two hours total including mounting and adjusting the RD. It comes on at start and goes off at engine shutoff, not when you open the door.

This is the best method. Much cleaner and only about 10 inches of wire vs 12 feet of wire to run all the way back to fuse #37.

I bought an Escort Passport and plan on buying the blendmount I've seen in pictures here. Looks nice and clean without the long cord from my windshield to my power supply. I'm not much of a do it yourself person. Where can I go to get this done for me? Will the dealer do it? Go to a car stereo store? Any any idea how much they would charge....

Thanks Grandpaw, I'll probably see if any local stereo shops will do it. I've seen others comment it took them 1-2 hours to do the job I dunno how long it would take me. Mounting it to my rearview isn't a big concern but hooking into my car's electric is.....

Same here, except that I went to the rear of the actual receptacle. Just needed to pop off the trim plate on the side of the console and there she was. The install was very straightforward and took less time than the consumption of one standard imported dark beer....
