Corvette Forum Reacts to Latest Mid-Engine Corvette News
I expected the mid-engine Corvette test mule news to cause an emotional backfire from Corvette Forum members. I thought there would be a large contingent that would get all "the sky is falling" up in the threads. I was wrong.

"There are rumblings that the engine bay may eventually play host to a small, 3.5- to 4.0-liter V-8 with all the fixin’s—meaning no pushrods. "
I honestly don't understand why people think that is a good thing.

This is not a mid-engine design. It doesn't have enough vents to breath. This is just the Holden truck (see the link below for an example picture). At most, I would think this is going to be a new version of that truck for them or possibly a GM version for America. Not a mid-engine vette.

It's great that somebody has caught pics of one of the mules
I'm surprised at the disbelief here, I thought it was pretty well established that this future mid engined product was in the works...

yes, they most def want to dump the C7 3 years in for a mid engine C8!!! I totally think this is true...

interesting...are we sure they're not trying to bring back the el camino (ha a joke!)....
the interesting part of the story was the 10 mid-engine cars before it....it's nice to see them include the CERV II, but they do realize that car also had ALL WHEEL DRIVE!!!! and this was the 1960s....maybe they could do that to up the performance!
and of course they reference the ford gt-40...which is such a cool car!!!
it will be interesting to see the development as this unfolds, of course i'll never be able to afford one. ever!!!

"Pretty well established?" By whom? A mid-engine 'Vette has been rumored to be coming for decades by the same automotive mags that are still saying it. It's never come to pass, so why should we believe the same mags now?

That is not what they are saying. It has long been rumored that the C8 will come out in a few years, mid-engine, and in top-level trim (something like the ZR1), and that it will co-exist with the base trim, and mid-trim (Z06) C7; until eventually all C7 trims are replaced by the Mid-engine C8.

Most probably an additional model to the C7 line (mid-engine high dollar) followed by a complete switch over to mid-engine design in 2020 (providing there are no major issues with the 2017 SE model).
Too many other high end manufacturers have made the mid-engine design work to great advantage, so why not the Corvette? Certainly was a stretch to design and get one built in the past, but now, I, for one, see it as the future.
I'd look for Hybrid tech to enter the Corvette realm in the future also.
I too think the C7 is the best effort GM has made with the Corvette to date. It is the complete package and rivals cars costing 3-4 times as much. A true sports car bargain IMO.
That being said, there is still plenty of room for the Corvette to grow and excel.
