Hard wiring a radar detector?
I just bough a new radar detector so I don't pile up the tickets. I see the older C6 vettes had a power plug on the back of the rearview mirror but no such luck on the C7's. Did a bit of a search but haven't seen much. So how you all doing it? The cord draped down the center of the windshield isn't working for me.

There are tons of threads regarding this. Here are 2 about tapping the mirror. There are others that run the wire back to the trunk and tap fuse #37.

You can also use a Blendmount to mount the detector under the mirror but instead of tapping the mirror for power, run the power cord underneath the A-pillars and connect it to the ignition switch.

Run the power cord to the center console cig lighter socket (very easy to get to - takes less than 45 seconds to do so) and tap power there.
There is no "ignition switch" in a C7 (not even in a C6)

Point being that there are other power sources than the rear view mirror to tap into. From what I've read, the C7 mirror is harder to tap than previous generations, so I would run the power wire to another power source if you want the always on feature without having an exposed power cord running the length of the dash.

It includeds comments and pics about mounting a Passport Max high on the windshield to the right of the mirror with Escort’s Sticky Mount. (I prefer not to reduce vision with it under the mirror - your choice.) Recently folks have learned how to access the mirror wires and someone has already provided you with those links. More involved than the C6 mirror tap but if you’re willing to tackle, it is the cleanest install.

I pulled the header trim and mirror. Decided that's not a good idea. Ended up running wire to console and lighter. While that is acceptable, the easiest is going back to fuse 37 and using the add a fuse thing.

Mirror tap is simple.... Buy the blendmount and the 9" mirror tap and follow the step by step directions in the thread. Looks clean as well.
Just my 2 cents worth....

Just took mine to local stereo shop.
$30 & an hour later, they had my V1 cord install.
It turns on & off with ignition.
Works great!

I took my 2016 C7 to a local stereo shop and to have my Escort 360 Max with a Blendmount installed. The detector turns on and off with the ignition but when I use remote start and get in the car to drive, the detector doesn't come on if I use the remote start feature. I have to stop somewhere in a parking lot or a light and restart the car for the detector to come back on. It looks like they used a hardwire kit instead of a mirror pigtail wire. I'm not sure where they tapped for power. I know this is an older thread but any advice would be appreciated.

I tried the Blendmount and hated it. It obstructs way too much of the windshield leaving a huge blindspot extending down quite some distance from the bottom of the mirror towards the dash. I went back to the manufacturer's suction cup mount which lets me mount the detector high and to the right of the rearview mirror.
I tried the mirror tap approach - twice. Each time, despite being pretty careful, I broke a pin on both of the mirror taps.
So what was I to do? I went to Best Buy and let the Geek Squad hardwire it. Now, breathe deeply. All went well. They took power from the center console's cigarette lighter receptacle and routed it around to the area above and to the right of the mirror. Total cost for the hardwiring was $49.95 + tax + tip. Your cost might be higher, however, as I did have them do some other work for me at the same time. Make your life easy and let a Geek install it for you.

As for the Mirrortap, again it was easy if you take your time.
Sorry neither worked out for you....

I agree, but to each his own! I, like I’m sure others, initially felt “I was not going all the way back to the back to the rear!” However after I spent much more time trying taping the vanity mirror light I found going to the rear was simple! The molding along the door bottom does not have to be removed! You can just lift it with a finger and tuck the positive wire up under that molding and along the rear then under the carpet. I also like the idea of having that wire protected for it’s full length with a 2 amp fuse needed for a detector. Might as well learn to deal with the carpet to get to the battery anyway! The key there is to pop the bottom of the plastic wheel cover off, which you can do with your fingers or a screw driver. Don’t have to access the full rear fuse panel just the lower right since that is where fuse 37 is located. Here’s a pic from my install PDF:
