Default Installed my Z51 Sway Bar kit and I now have problems!

I installed the Z51 sway bar kit today and noticed when I took it off the jacks.....the front end was real high. Took the car around the block and it is making terrible popping noises. Have no idea whats wrong! Everything was torqued to specs front and rear!

Just putting it out there.....Is it possible you put the front sway bar in up side down.....Did you have the wheels off the ground, or was it on ramps?

Careful... You're going to start a new trend with the after-market crowd!

Suspension needs to be loaded when you torque the bar down, it's holding it up now.

It was up in the air when I tightened everything. So just the end link nuts?

No, loosen all the bolts, especially the bushing bolts, with the wheels on the ground, then torque them down. The car should sit at the same height it did before you added the sway bars. Be careful, when you loosen the bolts, it will probably drop several inches. I would put the wheels on blocks, then do the loosening/re-torquing.

Yep. You will probably need ramps or a lift.

...Definitely DO NOT get under it then loosen the bolts though as the car is going to fall back to normal height.

Thanks...I'll try that! This is my first rodeo with replacing/adding sway bars.

Don't get under it without ramps or a lift though. It will fall when you loosen the bar.

To do this correctly

1. Jack up the car and loosen the bar, then lower the car
2. Drive up some ramps or use a wheel based lift then torque the bar.

You could also use some suspension holder bar things with a jack but it will be hard to eyeball the height right.

Here's how I raised the car, when I did the sway bars.

Thanks...going to loosen everything while it's up in the air and then tighten everything back to spec with the tires on 3 2X10's. That should give me enough room to tighten everything.

Default z51

The previous poster already NAILED it. It is obvious that you have installed the front sway bar upside down.

Yes it is possible to do that in the front. And yes you can torque the bolts down while in the upside down position. The wrong bar location is preventing the suspension from moving correctly. Check it out......you will see the bar is jammed against a suspension hard point. No big deal. Remove and replace the front bar right side up.

It is actually easier to put the front bar in the correct way as less angling of the bar is required to get it installed amid the other suspension parts.

You are probably right....I didn't think it could be installed upside down.
I loosened everything and it is still way up there!
