I did not remove the wheels. You have to jack up the wheel to make it work though. I jacked up a front tire. I put the Stripe It All tool on the outside of the rim at the 3 O'clock position and then turned the wheel slowly, which applied the tape. It is critical to hold the tool in the same orientation all the way around so the stripe does not move in and out on the rim. I learned this on the first try which resulted in throwing away one of the stripes. I have an automatic so the back wheels were done by jacking up the rear end at the middle jacking point. This takes both wheels off the ground at the same time. This allows them to rotate even when in park. Total time to apply, including cleaning/prepping the rims was less than an hour.
