maybe you should put a 160 thermostat

Is your electrical cooling fan failing to come on as the engine gets hotter? The only sign I ever see of an engine getting over-warm is the sound of that fan turning on as I sit idling.

Certainly not common. What are your readings (engine temp, ambient temp, how long sitting, etc.)?

not the norm, please post some info like what temp it gets too, if the fan comes on and what your gauges say.

Putting in a lower temperature thermostat will NOT keep it from overheating, IF it's really overheating. The lower temperature thermostat will slow down engine warm-up and may even keep it from reaching normal operating temperature. That will mess up the fuel economy and performance. It's a terrible suggestion.

It has overheated 3 times since July 2014. It seems it only overheats
when I am in heavy traffic, with stop and go. The temp gauge goes
from 220 to 240 with the ac on. The display reads turn off ac, engine overheating. This is not normal. A Chevrolet tech pressure checked the
radiator. It was fine. They have contacted a corvette engineer, for the
week of April 6. I will post the results.
Thanks Everyone,
James

Sounds like the fan is not functioning correctly. The fan is the only source of flowing air to cool the engine at idle. When you drive, the air flow from driving gives the main source of cooling. If you don't overheat while driving, I'd suspect the fan.

I installed a Ligenfelter 160Deg Tstat at about 300 mi. Was amazed at how much lower my Z51 engine water temps have been. They always are between 165 & 170 in normal driving and at idle. If I get on it, they go up slightly but come back down in a few seconds of slow down or normal driving. Car now has 700 mi. My IAT Temps (incoming air temp) run anywhere from 4 deg to 10 deg above ambient temps in normal driving. When my engine sits after running, the temps go way up. Water temp comes back down almost immediately, but IAT takes a couple minutes of slow driving to get back to around 10 over ambient.

Anyone who has any water temp issues, needs the Ligenfelter 160 deg Tstat. Very easy to install. I did it when I had my front clip off to install the Z06 grille and splitter. Took abput 10 minutes due to easy access to the radiator drain ****.

Have a 14 with Z51 and I have noticed the exact opposite. My engine temp has never even gotten as high as 150. Usually it's around 130.

Mine did the same thing, Dealer called tech support and was told to check the connection to the fan. It happen at 1400 miles and now it has 6000 and never happen again. my oil % went from 90% to 0% so they changed the oil and did a few other test. Dealer was told by tech support the had some issues with the connector. BTY mine was built 7/20/14

My car did this yesterday. I have a thread about it here:

Let me know what ends up happening with yours after GM responds.

I seem to recall a problem with the fan connector where it would actually melt. I can't remember if it was my 98 Camaro or the 2007 C6 but the problem was the amperage flowing through the connector to the fan was melting the connector and causing improper fan operation. I'd crawl under and disconnect the fan and examine the inside of the fan connector.

do you by chance know where the connector is specifically? Don't want to take the whole front end apart looking for it.. lol

Look through the hood vent and verify there is no debris hung up on top of the radiator. . I have some 70 trees on my lot; periodically, I have to open up the hood and pull leaves and such out.

Sam with the C5, as a bottom breather, all sort of stuff gets sucked up and eventually partially blocks the airflow.

This is a problem with the C6, especially in blown applications, and I went through it myself. They ended up having to replace the fan/controller assembly as the connector was indeed melted and making intermittent contact.

The harness on the C6 runs down along the passenger side of the fan shroud and ends towards the bottom of the shroud. I would imagine it would be the same with the Stingray. You should be able to jack the side of the car up, slide under, and see the connector where it attaches the harness to the fan wiring.

It is either an issue with the wiring connector, or the fan controller, as low speed overheating means your fan is not running properly.

Been in stop-and-go traffic in my 2014 Z51 (VIN 11822) - AC on - in 111 degree ambient temps and coolant temp never went over 225....

does anyone know if the analog temp gauge reads from the same sensor as the digital gauge?
