I'm planning on buying a new C7 but I wanted to ask a few questions first.
The story is I rented a C7 non Z51 for 10 days and I loved it. It was an LT2/LT3 not sure if it had magnetic ride control or not. The car rides perfectly (better than most European cars). My daily driver is a BMW 640i GranCoupe and I can say that the vette drives better. So I decided to trade-in my camaro with a C7.
Will I lose any ride comfort if I opt for the Z51 package?
Is the magnetic ride control worth it?
Would appreciate your input.

I wouldn't buy a Z51 without the Mag ride.

Here's how massive a benefit MagRide can be on certain situations/applications:

Cracking the 7-minute barrier on the 'Ring is a huge accomplishment. Porsche's more powerful 918 Spyder did the deed about 3 seconds quicker, in 6:57.00. Other than that, there are two quicker times by Radicals, but calling those production cars is a stretch. Every other production car in the world requires more than 7 minutes. Talking with Maurizio, I ask him what was the biggest factor for nailing such a great time. The extra power? The weight reduction? The extra downforce from the outsized wing? Nope, he tells me. It's mostly the magnetic dampers. How much compared with an Aventador with fixed dampers? Twenty seconds. Why so? The vastly improved ride control allowed Lamborghini's driver to go quicker and harder over bad surfaces. Sometimes it's as simple as that.

Hmmm....I can't tell a single difference going over a large speed bump with MRC shocks versus non-MRC.
Is it that noticeable to you guys in every day driving?

Instant gratification.

My question about MRC (not that it matters now, my Z51 doesn't have it) is whether it can actually get SOFTER than the stock Z51 suspension setup, allowing for a more comfortable and compliant cruise/city ride.

I havent driven both, but from the comments posted in the past, the stock suspension -- non mag ride is much stiffer than the Tour setting on the mag ride, so yes the mag ride in Tour gives a softer ride.

Hi Lisa,
Does your 2005 C6 Vette have MRC shocks?
I'm curious if you can tell a difference between the C6 MRC version and the C7 MRC version.
Congrats on logging 210k miles...that is awesome!!!

My '14 has the Mag ride. Now that I've experienced it, I wish both of my C6s would have had it. So, no, I don't have a direct comparison, but there are plenty who say the same that do.
I didn't know how amazing it was till I got it.

It's standard on most Cadillacs now as well as the new $500,000 Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce. If you think about it, what's $1800 on a $70k car? It's less than a set of chrome wheels. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

In the C6, I would have said no. In my old 2012 Grand Sport with Mag Ride, you turned the dial and waited for the ride to firm up or soften and it was like nothing happened. I would brag to the wife about how many calculations and suspension changes happened per second, but the ol' derriere said differently.
I've had the C7 for all of THREE DAYS and this thing is a completely different story. It firms and softens up like my BMW between Tour and Sport+. It's a complete leap in technology between generations.
Get it - it's a DREAM!

Ok- that really clears it up for me. Couldn't understand why everyone was raving about it now because it just doesn't do much on my XLR (which has the same MRC parts as the C6).
Sounds like they heavily revised it for the C7.

Well, you wouldn't want it for your C6s when you saw the repair bill!!!
At your high mileage you'd probably be through complete 2 sets by now.

600 ahipped. All dry and worked perfect.
even new I was getting them for 2k.
your repair bill is at lease 1k too high even for retail. Wow
I would never buy a vette available with it WITHOUT IT

Softest base C7 (shocks can't make up for stiffer springs, heavier from sway bar and added rear bar that the base car does not have.)
Next Z51 with MRC set at Touring
Next Z51 without MRC (what I have as well.)
Next Z51 with MRC set at Sport
Next Z51 with MRC set at Track
They did make MRC stiffer in the C7 when set at Track. One person said you can feel if going over a dime. My Z51 without MRC is not that stiff. On our relatively good flat roads in Eastern SC saw no need to add the complication in my Z51 C6 and was happy with the ride so got my C7 the same way.
If you track of have bad or washboard roads worth the price. In fact I'll be stuck with it in my planned GS when my current 2014 Z51, which is up for sale, is gone!

ok new to magride here I have never tried it till now, I test drove a grand sport and a GS z07, both got magride and I purposely drove on lane separator reflector bump thing. magride the bumps felt kinda like.....far away and not noticeable and smooth ride (and just the ride in general in all roads). but for my focus st I can feel each bump very noticeably. so maybe in general the ride suspension in the vette just feels nice and more comfortable than focs st?! (I had it in sport mode) Is that possible I mean focus st should be much softer. maybe the vette is new and I loved everything about it so even the ride suspension I feel it's just awesome, so a mind thing. or is that just how good and how magride works?!!?!? just a very smooth and leveled/comfortable ride? lol it just felt really good for some reason

I never had it so I don't miss it. I have no idea if it is worth it.

I own 2015 z51 non mag ride. I have driven both, mag and non mag both are amazing. as a former owner of six Porsche 911s I can say that the non mag z51 rides better than my 997s and almost as well as the 991 i had a yr ago. the mag ride option is a great feature but not a deal breaker in my opinion. if you think the non mag z51 is too stiff just ride a few hours in a 997.1 or 997.2, seats are thin and your back and legs suffer.....mag ride is great but don't let it keep you from buying a great car that is super without it.
