Magnetic Ride Control worth it?
I'm planning on buying a new C7 but I wanted to ask a few questions first.
The story is I rented a C7 non Z51 for 10 days and I loved it. It was an LT2/LT3 not sure if it had magnetic ride control or not. The car rides perfectly (better than most European cars). My daily driver is a BMW 640i GranCoupe and I can say that the vette drives better. So I decided to trade-in my camaro with a C7.
Will I lose any ride comfort if I opt for the Z51 package?
Is the magnetic ride control worth it?
Would appreciate your input.

I do own a 2015 Z51 with magnetic ride control. With touring mode, the ride is nice and smooth. Turn it to track mode and the ride gets very stiff. GM announced that they will be making a software update to adjust stiffness of track mode on Z06 and hopefully Z51. I often drive the car in sport mode which is firm but not as bad as track mode. I just completed 3 days Ron Fellows class at spring mountain and drove standard Z51 suspension. The car felt great and not too stiff. I definitely liked the track mode in that car more than mine.

The Z51 also comes with the electronic Limited Slip Differential (eLSD) and a few other techno goodies. Consumer Reports rates the Z51 as a best value option.

From my limited experience while test driving different trim levels with and without MRC I came to a single conclusion. I preferred the ride without MRC because I like the tight suspension with whatever mode I'm driving in. If you want the car to smooth things out during a daily driving mode while having the ability to tighten it up when you want... then the MRC is your thing.
IMHO of course...

If you want the softest ride get the base car. If you get the Z51 suggest you do so knowing the ride will be stiffer, the brake pad dust is much worse than the base car, I had to clean my wheels after two 30 mile trips to town. In addition the dry sump takes special care and time to check oil levels and the extra oil takes time to get hot making frequent short trips not good for the engine. The higher performance construction larger Z51 tires also appear to be worse in regard to cold weather (below 45 F) tire chatter, so be willing to turn the wheel less and make a “K” turn when making slow speed maneuvers like backing out of a parking slot on cold days.
Now if after considering the issues with the Z51 if you still want it, if you’re not tracking the car, don’t have bad roads with pot holes or washboards the non mag shock version may be fine. That is what I have since I did not want the extra complication. I drive in Sport all the time for the throttle response, steering feel and eSLD settings. The ride does not change in any mode, which for me it’s fine. Note I also switched brake pads to ceramic Carbotech 1521's to eliminate the excessive brake dust.

I turned down a Le Mans Blue 2014 coupe w/Z51 LT3, 5,000 miles, with yellow calipers, black mirrors & hood stripe, CF roof, cf vents, Z06 grill, Z06 style rear spoiler, MGW blade shifter, black emblems, comp suede seats, CF dash, tinted windows, every available option, and the entire car had the clear exterior protector. $63,000, maybe less, but no Mag Ride. The car was a steal but I've driven too many Mag Ride cars to buy one without it. If one is going to heavily track the car it would probably be best to avoid the MR. But, perhaps that is just me.

these topic keep coming up over and over again...in short yes it's worth it.
I have it on mine. Ride is not stiff. The other comments above sum it up nicely

If you decide to go for the Z51 I would suggest you consider the Mag ride control. You will feel the difference going from Sport to Touring mode. When I decided on the Z51 the Mag ride control was one option that was important to me and I'm glad I have it. Just my opinion and good luck with your decision whatever you choose.

I have the Mag ride control and think of the Touring setting as "wife mode". She doesn't have any comprehension or appreciation of Sport or Track mode. Actually even for myself, I appreciate having the softer setting available for cruising down the interstate.

He was also impressed by fact that Ferrari licenses this technology from GM.
C7 mag ride is much better than C6. Much fun to cycle through the three ride Modes.
I say buy the most Corvette you can afford.
As to waiting to check the oil I find that the 5 minutes of admiring this beautiful car before checking the oil is not a "problem".
Finally, either way you will LOVE this car!

It won't matter too much exactly which options a C7 has once the car is 4+ years old. Used 4+ year old $30k- something used car buyers are not as fussy about options as new buyers. Plus, in that relatively low price range how much of an impact from an actual dollars point of view can one option really have on value?
