Default Rattling noise when driving Manual C7

Hi All,

Question, I am noticing a rattling noise when disengaging the clutch on my car, sounds like a rattling noise. Almost like a clutch related noise. Car has 1.6k miles... Just noticed it today.

Thanks in advance for the help!

My car does this. At work I park in a parking garage and I can hear it echoing off the garage walls when I disengage the clutch. With the clutch disengaged and transmission in neutral, it's silent. Took dealership mechanic for a ride and he says it's normal. My car has 1900 miles.

I had a manual on a 96 Trans Am with the same issue. I know different transmission. They replaced the tranny saying it was a bad input shaft but it came back. GM then said it was normal operations. Generally it would go away if you push the clutch in and rattle at low speeds/rpm. I guess it is still normal according to GM.

Interesting. It shouldn't make a noise like that.

Any other manual transmission owners experience this?

My fear of taking it in is then not figuring it out and being a waste of my time, or throwing parts at it.

Mine makes the same noise. I took it to the dealer and the shop foreman drove it while I was in the passenger seat. When it rattled as he stepped on the clutch at a low speed, he told me it was completely normal and that they all do it.

That really bums me out. Seems so low rent of GM.

Car is amazing and for it to make such a silly noise kills me. My daily driver is a 2004 g35 6-speed with 122k miles and it doesn't make any noise. Ah well.

At least I know it is normal. I'm surprised it didn't notice it right away.

Hard to access what you're hearing but mine built in September 2013 makes no noise. If loud and it just started it could be the dual mass flywheel. There were some reports of the springs falling out! This is a pick of one, not for the C7, but probably of a similar design. The Service Manual does not show a pick or schematic.

Some early reports about dual mass flywheel springs falling out. This is not a C7 but shows how one is constructed

I had an e90 M3 and in first gear it made the same noise also, I only could notice it in the garage, nothing to be concerned about.

My car has a rattling sound as I let the clutch out in 1st gear from a stop. If I start out slow it does not make the sound. If I rev it up slightly and put a bit more load on the clutch I get the sound. A ticking sound or a click until the clutch pedal is all the way out.

Sounds like a different problem as it happens when I engage the clutch.....Anybody else hear this?

No noise on mine, though late in the 2014 build cycle...and I'm pretty AR too, so if it was there I would hear it....but still under 3K miles...

I have heard a little bit of a rattle under certain conditions when the clutch is engaged...but most of the time it is quiet and smooth...
One advantage of getting old, is that you cannot hear minor squeeks and rattles.

It's normal, but with experience and a smoother clutch depression and release technique, it can be made completely silent.
