Default Seat leather thinning in 5 month old car?

Anyone else have issues with thinning of seat leather in drivers side edge? I know my derrière hits this area when getting in on occasion but enough to wear down the leather in 5 months? I have 6000 miles on it and I am your average size guy 5'8" 160#. Any suggestions other than changing way I plant myself into car?

You want to plant your rear on the front part of the seat sideways then turn yourself in. If you hit the bolster (top edge) of the back with your butt getting in it will get ugly.

Common problem with cars that sit low with aggressive seat side bolsters. You've already identified the solution in the last sentence of your post. Time for behavior modification!

Place your left hand over the bolster when entering to act as a buffer.

Put your *** in the middle of the seat while stepping in.

Another method is to crawl in from the passenger side. It makes for good flexibility training as well.

Along these same lines, has anyone noticed if black vs red leather age and wear differently? I'm asking because I'm going with the new two tone 2LT option for 2016 and the bolsters are black rather than the standard 2LT seat which is completely red.

Ever since my knee took an odd twist on snow skis with subsequent surgery many years ago, I necessarily started getting into cars by planting my butt on the seat with both feet outside, then turning on the seat bringing my feet inside. Although my knee got better over the years, I still get into cars the same way.

Many of my cars have had aggressive bolsters, tight cockpits, etc. and this procedure has resulted in essentially no wear on the bolsters or leather. It also saves the sill plates as you can more easily lift your feet over them without dragging across. It's easier on your back and hips as well, once you get older.

I'm 300 lbs and 6'2" and as long as I put my **** in first, then swing my legs in, no problem. This method works with my C4 which is MUCH harder to get into than the C7 due to having to climb over the frame rails in the C4.

Having a similar problem with my C6. Driver's door can't open fully due to hitting the wall of the garage.

Just in case, how do you solve the problem, if the bolster is worn? I am assuming new seat padding and a reskin with new seat cover?

Thanks

Or...get dropped in from an open roof with a Crane or Cherry Picker

Sounds like the way I do it. I put my right foot on the floor in front of the seat, use it as a lever to pivot my bottom onto the seat then simply lift my left leg in.

That's what I do, gently using the steering wheel to help with the lifting. Right leg in, left hand pulling gently on the steering wheel, right hand on the console, and you're in. Having the steering wheel move up and the seat nearly all the way back in exit mode helps, too. I try to do as little butt movement as possible.

That should significantly reduce the wear on the bolster area.
