Default My wife wants to know-where's the leather smell?

Been almost 3 weeks since I picked up my C7 which was built wk of 4/13/15. The adhesive/glue smell is almost gone but I don't smell any leather. Before I bought, I was in a showroom and the 3LT there reeked of leather. My 3LT has no leather smell so far. Does your C7 have a leather smell. My wife and I love the smell of leather and are a little disappointed.

Other than that, the car has surpassed my expectations.

Its a cheaper grade leather with a plastic coating. GM uses a very poor grade of leather. It also wears prematurely. Hence no pleasant leather aroma.

Car leather is coated with a plastic film so you really don't have any leather "exposed" as it were..

(been that way for years)

Zaino leather in a bottle. Use it weekly. Problem solved.

If you want genuine leather buy an Audi.

My 3LT had a plastic/carpet new car smell for about 3 months, it slowly faded and now smells like leather.

A little bit unusual, yes, but not the only complaint regarding smells in this car. There have been other threads concerning the strong chemical odor in the car when new.

For the first several months, my car smelled like very strongly of a "chemical odor" and was very irritating to my wife and multiple other passengers and, to a lesser degree, to me as well. The car has never smelled like leather...ever.

The smell diminished considerably by leaving the top out of the car when in the garage and allowing everything to "off gass" over time.

I found that if you leave a wet chamois in the car overnite, that it creates the aroma of "Genuine Corinthian Leather"!!! Just don't park your car outside... as the smell of Testor's Plastic Glue" will arise !

My car was built in late JAN... Almost 4 months later, and a trip to Iowa, when it sits in the sun... it still smells like the model cars I built so I could sniff glue!!!! SO... ENJOY YOUR HIGH!!! Leather smell be damned...:che ers:

Make up your minds, women!

Is the new car smell gone after a few days, or is the new car smell killing the wife?

Me, I loved the new car smell, and when it went away, I put the top down and can smell the honeysuckle.

I installed a recovered leather steering wheel from John Caravaggio.....it still "reeks" almost a year later. I never knew if was totally the leather he uses or a combination of it and the GM leather. I guess it's the wheel.....it smells great!

Love my Zaino Z-10! Asked John Caravaggio about using it on the steering wheel he made for my Z06, and he said to wait a month. Which I did. A marriage made in heaven, Z-10 and Caravaggio!

I use Griot's Leather Scent. A spray or two under the seats is all it takes.

Looks like you can only buy Zaino direct from Zaino themselves? They don't even support PayPal to make data entry painless? No, thank you.

Or an AMG MB. We just got my wife's a month ago and it smells awesome! She had an Audi TTRS before this and it had the leather smell for a long time. We have had several MB's with a few being AMG's and the leather smell is almost always detectable esp when the car is hot.

I know the haters will get on me but GM is still GM and the leather that they use is not the best that is used in the industry. The leather in my car is not built for the long run and will be replaced at least once during the 36 36 bumper to bumper. Wish it were full grain (Napa is seldom full grain but may be) not thin like a pair of Italian shoes. I prefer shell cordovan for American made shoes lol. Tough as nails and lasts...

It always is replaced on my trucks and the 14 Denali will be that was as well in fact the new heated steering wheel will be here later this week. Worn and the stitching let go in one corner. It is what it is just have to deal with it.
